Hello everyone, i wonder what does 2 of the new XFX 5970 4GB BE LIMITED performs in crossfire?

im sort of buying a new computer and i choosed these cards, i don't have any issues with paying that money, so please don't tell me it's very expensive!

Just waiting for nVidia to release a new cards with GF104 or AMD 6XXX series.

well 2 5970 speak for themselves in performance so i can imagine some blacks being very good,if you got the funds then go for it it will be hefty.

dont you have some 5970's

Problem with these cards as with any other 5970 is that they scale terribly. Buying more than one is pointless as it will be microstutter city. The other thing to mention is have you got 6 screens? If you have six screens, eyefinity doesn't like crossfire (quad), if you don't, you don't need these cards.

If you want to blow an inordinate amount of cash on GPUs get a toxic 5970, see how you go with one, then if you decide that you enjoy headbutting the wall a lot, buy another.

simples *squeak"

i hought they scaled ok as its hardware dependant, also i would of thought he got alot of screens as he chose these cards over the toxics.

Got to love when people buy into marketting. Just buy a normal 5970, thats nothing special at all dude.

Also quad fire = proper poooo loads of games run slower than normal crossfire 5870's.

Trust me, quadfire doesn't scale well. I have a pair of 5970s, some games scale well (usual suspects) others don't. Eyefinity doesn't support crossfire in most cases, as it will just flash the screen, or it will support it, but the framerate will be way down. For example Dirt2 with catalyst AI off (i.e. 1/2 a 5970 on) will get 70+ frames with eyefinity, with crossfire, 20 is optimistic.

If you have 6 screens, you will also need a 6 screen mount, which costs about £450+

Crossfire (x2) scales very well, but above that it doesn't. There are a few reasons, but mostly its because games aren't built to code for more than 2 gpus, and driver writers don't concentrate on people who have more than 2 gpus as they are a minority. It also explains why the whole eyefinity crossfire thing is such a mess.

Trust me, quadfire doesn't scale well.

My experiments are beginning to agree. Batman just gets absolutely eaten alive. 38fps min, 110 avg and 210 max with quadfire.

Crysis? Jesus, don't go there. 50% reduction over one card. Fallout is the exact same so obviously nothing is even happening.

I won't blame ATI, the game coders are simply not bothering to support more than two. It's been a very interesting experiment though

jaysus i realy thought they scaled well especialy the top 5 series.

They'll all scale the same mush. They're all dual GPU with a hard bridge built in. That's all, nothing different between the 3870x2, 4870x2 or 5970 apart from the actual graphics card parts (GPU memory etc) but they are all built using the same idea.

I decided to go with another 5970 2GB instead of 2 new 5970 4GB

i already have one 5970 2GB installed in my system.

Thank you guys! i really wanted to try the new 4GB from XFX..but maybe other time.

Its still two 5970s mate, quad fire is stupid. So is buying the 980 now tbh, you just look like someone whos buying what appears to be the best and not understanding whats actually going to give you the best performance.

The HAF X is just wrong and CM Gold PSU's are not great either. Ripple on them is huge.

Yeah, i already have one 5970 2GB in my system so why not buy another one instead of staying for only one?

for the CPU, i know it's too late to buy the i7-980X, but it's okay i got the money and i don't have any problem with spendig to 980X

for the PSU i changed my mind..im going for Corsair AX1200 Watt 80 PLUS Gold Single Rail +12V 100.4A

The performance with the second 5970 is appalling, not worth the money. Good choice on the psu, but really don't get the second 5970. Please. I say that as the owner of two.

Because it's an utter utter waste of money. You will lose performance.

Just sell the one you have and get an Ares.

And if you want to hold on for a couple of days my research will be complete and you can see how bad Quadfire is.

Rushed forward just to save you from wasting your money.

If you buy a second then you are just buying it for the spec list. And it will give us funnies untill you replace them.

Your new epeen will be very small and droopy!

Ok then, what do you recommend for me? i don't want to get GTX480 2x or 3x or even Quad SLI, because that card is hot, and my enviroment is also very hot, so NO & NO!

if i can use 3x Zotac GTX480 AMP Edition then of course im going to buy it!
