Hello Guys! There seems to be alot of HD6970's floating around these days, as in different aftermarket coolers, pre-overclocked etc. These cards really do vary in price, and therfore I would like to ask OC3D what there reccomendations are. Would like to be spending £350 MAX on each of my cards (getting 2.)

Many thanks, Luke

Hey Luke! Welcome to the forums! I can't give you any information about the brands of the 6970's because i have never owned one. However another thing you might consider, instead of getting the 6970's get the 6950's then unlock them to run as a 6970 and that should save you a bit of money!

HiS HD 6970 2GB (non IceQ)

or

MSi HD 6970 Lightning 2GB Twin Frozr III

and out of the two, i would go with the TFIII

Msi R6970 lightning has the best cooler alongside with Gigabytes gv R697oc2.

But Saphire makes the fastest 6970/6950.The Saphire Toxic hd6950.

But if i were you,i would look at gtx570 with non-ref cooler.

or even... two gtx580s, if you have 350bucks per card to spend

BTW: i have found, sapphire's to be slightly noiser than MSi equivalents

thanks guys, maybe sounds a little sad, but im going with a black and red sorta scheme?

also im not to sure about 580's, :/ 1.56Gb? there is no 2Gb model?

You can get 3GB versions of 580s. There is the lightning extreme edition, Gainward do one as well and there are some others I can't remember.

EVGA has the 3GB version as well I think. Gigabyte also has one. Yup, I think you pretty much covered the common ones.

If you are looking for quiet the reference coolers on the 6950/6970 are noisy because they use the leaf blower fan. The TF3 cooler is brilliant.

I just got the XFX 6970, no complaints here

I had 2 ordered from Dabs, both were faulty on delivery, hence why im looking for 2 new cards

(also read that they have terrible customer support so taking opportunity to get better ones)

would also consider 2 3GB 580's if I could get them at the right price.

depends on game really if it has physics then ya want Nvidia (well if ya want to see tit that is)
