Hi Guys,
I've had my Samsung spinpoint f3 fail me this week. A nasty crash in ubuntu and it seems the heads hit the platter and have written off most of the drive.
Not all bad but quite a lot of films and iso's gone. Thank god for dropbox, no important stuff lost.
So I need a replacement. I found samsungs recovery software uselss, seagates seatools refused to do anything with it being a samsung drive (even though seagate seatools is now the only available manufacturer tool for the samsung drives).
I had a 2.5" wd blue fail a couple of years ago which put me off wd however in hindsight it had quite a few years and a good few drops on it. The wd tools were much better than seagate. I have a wd black in my laptop now and so far i'm happy with it (it's rather fast).
The wd caviar black 1tb is priced at £74.99
The Seagate Baracuda 2tb is priced at £77.99
Its going to be for OS use.
Does anyone have experience with any of these drives? Which would you go for?
An extra terabyte or 5 year warranty?
