Good to hear you've managed it. I am not sure why GParted didn't work. But I have used only Ubuntu boot drive, and it worked flawlessly. I have no experience with ISO thingy.

Fannytastic. It sounds like the drive was halted whilst the heads were engaged. Which will cause a sort of lock to prevent any damage.
As I said before I used to see this a lot back in the day, especially with SCSI drives (because they were so fast). They would report as like a 200mb drive and be all sorts of screwed instead of say the 20gb they should have been.
I used to just low level them (which took all night back then too lol) and then come in to working drives in the morning.
Glad you worked out Disk Part in the end. The Clean function usually takes care of most of the issues I have had, though I have had to refer to that partition proggy a couple of times before that would work
