Watercooling config powerful enough

Hey guys,

I just made it to sell my H100 and got a Swiftech H220 preordered at Specialtech. I am considering expanding it with a GPU waterblock and a radiator to my first full watercooled system. There comes my question into play.

Is a Swiftech H220 expanded with an Alphacool NexXxos ST30 120mm (single) full copper rad with all Noctua NF-F12s in pull powerful enough to cool an i7 3770k @ 4.4 GHz 1.25V and a GTX 680 4GB boosting up to 1.2GHz
(3/8" ID - 1/2"OD tubing, Mayhems Aurora Supernova) ?

Thx in advance!

should be ok maybe go with a fairly thick 120mm rad tho maybe even consider a double. But im not experienced enough with watercooling so wait for others to contribute lol im just trying :P XD

I was also thinking about a NexXxos ST45 240mm full copper in the bottom of my Stryker. But tubing routing would be kind of difficult and not look that good. Would need to rout it behind the mobo tray. Would be exciting though.

I wanted white coolant, would fit my Stryker well... Why not Aurora ? So what else to choose then? Mayhems Pastel Ice White ? What would you suggest?

Aurora is not for 24/7 use

Pastel is ok but you need to have the correct tubing - plasticizer free is best (rare) otherwise it goes shit.

Thats kind of difficult to deal with. I wanted to order all my stuff at Spechialtech and the one that is always recommended by guys like SingularityComputers is Masterkleer. Aurora just looks so beast... you know.

The aurora effect will drop out of suspension after a week or so and gunk up blocks/res etc

Masterkleer is rubbish tubing to use with pastel, it goes dull and slightly cloudy which affects pastel more than a transparent coolant

Pastel is fine with the new Primochill tubing (Primochill Advanced), The old Primochill tubing is trash, but the guys over at Mayhems told me the new stuff works great.

are you sure that the swiftechs pump is going to up to the job of pumping through another rad and a GPU block? I know it will pump through but what sort of flow rate are you going to be getting?

Im not going to say its not going to work, but check the flow rate of that pump and remember that that's the flow rate with the current length of tubing and the current restrictions. Adding more tubing will create a greater 'head' of water and decrease flow, adding a second rad will also reduce flow.

if it were me id try and get a second hand rad, res and pump, but new tubing and a cheap new cpu block and know that in the future you can add a gpu block or even 2 if you want to.

Just my opinion. I did a loop for about the price of a swiftech, just means that you have to wait a fcouple of weeks to assemble parts and search everyday on ebay.

I found some forum entry that says that the h220 pump has a max flowrate of 1100 lph. I assume that means litres per hour. But because I am a newbie to watercooling, I dont know what that means for expandability , considering that the pump might get loud when turning up to the max, and the whole point of wc is performace and silence so...

Tubing wise, just to get it right: I would be fine with Primochill Advanced clear tubing and mayhems pastel ice white, right? Is this ehe "advanced" tubing ?http://www.specialtech.co.uk/spshop...---12-OD-10-13mm-Tubing--Clear-pid-17627.html

Thought so... LinusTechTips Linus recommended the H220s pump for multi gpu setups, so it cant be that bad...

So just to sum up: I might get the H220 in the top of the stryker, a waterblock for the 680, probably a Alphacool ST45 240mm full copper rad in the bottom, all noctua fans running @ 7V directly off the psu TTL style. The Prolimatech Advanced 3-8" ID - 1/2" OD clear tubing and mayhems pastel ice white coolant.
That ok?

Now one more estethic question: The H220 has kind of barb fittings. Would it look better then to use barb fittings for all the othe components, too, or could I also go with compression fittings that might be easier to deal with?

Martin takes a close look at the pump in his review of the H220.

I wholeheartedly recommend his website in general, very thorough reviews. One of the best watercooling resources on the web.

Another question came up on me. While I was reading about the different coolant types on mayhems website, they say that their coolant is not compatible with Primochill tubing. That goes against the statement
njallday made a few days ago.

So what tubing to use with Mayhems Pastel Blood Red or Mayhems Pastel Ice White?

I'm no expert water cooling is new to me, but from me asking the same question the other day. I was told that the Primochill LRT is a no no, but the primochill LRT advanced is fine. The advanced doesn't have any DEHP in it, so won't cause clouding on the inside wall of the tube. I hope that advise was right as I've just bought a couple of meters of the stuff.

As far as I'm informed, that is correct. There's two sorts of Primochill tubing: The "normal" one and the "Advanced something something". The advanced stuff is the one you want to be using with Mayhems stuff (or just in general ;)).
