Watercool NB or not.... Opinions wanted

Alright guys (and the odd girl)

Basically I'm putting together a new rig with the soul purpose of overclocking this E8600 I have sitting here.

These things get pretty toasty and I'm kinda stuck at a decision. I think I know which way I'm gonna go but wanna see what other people think.

The X48 NB will get pretty hot when running at very high FSB which it will be running at. I want to know will watercooling that, but in turn adding the extra heat to the loop be more beneficial to the overclock than having an HR-05 IFX stuck on the NB with an 80mm fan stuck on the side of it. This will of course have the benefit of not having the extra heat in the loop.

Would the IFX be able to deal with the heat do we think?

Obviously the extra heat if I watercool the NB could affect how high I can push the CPU. This thing has a very very low VID and as such am hoping to get some pretty high overclocks from it.

That said, watercooling the NB will keep it cooler than any heatsink and as such could aid in achieving the higher overclock.

The loop will have a new PA120.3 (15mm spacing version) as well as a brand new XSPC Delta V3 with a DDC Ultra (XSPC res top probably).

Motherboards is this one..

All opinions welcomed... Ta muchly.

Invest in a decent air sink + fan (delta!) and don't bother imo.

Well as above, this is the heatsink I have.

It's one of the best no? Only thing I can think of to beat it would the big ol lump o' copper. The fan I have on it at the moment is an 80mm Redwing.

Oh yeah one more thing while I'm thinking about it. With regard to the SB, I have one of the Enzotech copper sinks somewhere in-between these two in size. Number 1 Number 2

Try it on air and see how it goes, then cool it with a waterblock if you need to..

Of course that's one way of doing it :D but I was hoping to do the loop on this one once.

Hmmm so no closer to a final decision then. We have split views.

Still not 100% sure about the SB either. How hot do they get on the X48's?

Southbridge is fairly pointless with a waterblock, im running an nforce 780i chipset and southbridge temps don't really need watercooling. So i got a Hro5 ifx for it. As for northbridge the main reason i put it on water was the annoying whiney fan eVGA decided to stick on the heatsink, plus in all fairness it looks better watercooled rather than aircooled but the thermalright heatsinks look nice aswell.

Didn't mean necessarily watercooling it but how about those copper enzotech things?

enzo's work fine. If you are worried you can get ones with fans anyways.

If you are going to clock and want to run it that way for more than benches you need water. The rampage extreme (x48) gets ducking toasty.

Aahhh spose I'll watercool it.... I've got some high powered Panaflo's now so that'll make up the diff compared to the Redwings I have now.

depends how high you're thinking of pushing

i had no problems at all running a rampage extreme and a p5e3 premium at 500 fsb 24/7 with stock cooling

Well I wanna bench the nuts off this CPU as it's VID is 1.1625 and it'll do 4GHz at less than that. Had it Prime stable at 1.135 at 4GHz.

This is just for fun before the 32nm dualies come out next year. Gonna be pushing more like 600MHz FSB hopefully. Well just a little under but close.
