Water cooled 980's ?

so Im just going WATER ha,

got myself a new Evolv, and going to grab a 980.

question is, are there any differences between the ones with water blocks from the shops like the Poseidon and the EVGA one Vs

say buying a Ref card and my own block ? or one of the 3 that Overclockers Uk sell ?

Card like the Poseidon is a hybrid. It still have a fan that runs at a very low RPM when on water.

They do pretty good, but from what I remember, they don't temps as low as a dedicated block. And you have to decide on if you like the look of the card.

Buy your own block, screw the fans. My EK block keeps my 980 under 40C at all times. I'd have to take a flame thrower to the card to get it hot.

Honestly I'd say that you should just get a card and get a waterblock for it and avoid having a fan on your GPU being the loudest thing in your system.

One thing the OP might want to look at is what manufacturers don't void warranty for changing coolers. The list is getting shorter and shorter. If you do decide to go with your own block, make sure to test the card thoroughly before you ditch the stock cooler.

What about things such as the EVGA Hydro Copper ? or the ones Overclockers UK do with pre fitted blocks ?

Also, how about these top end Air cololed cards with fancy PCB's can you get blocks for these ?

You can use the EK configurator on ekwb.com as an example to check if they have a waterblock for your potential future card.

If not, you can suggest they make one. If the interest is high enough they will actually do it.

The blocks fitted at OCUK are under warranty from the shop not the manufacturer as once you pull that block off, more that likely you will void any warranty that is provided b them.

TBH im almost at the point of waiting for the next crop and see how they go :)

You'll be waiting for AMD to make their move and Nvidia to answer. I'm thinking early in the spring.

Back to your orignal question... buy a reference card and block it. Or you can buy a non reference card, such as the strix and make sure you buy the correct block for it.

I'd say away from the water/air cooled cards tbh.

Also, the Hydrocopper from EVGA is the exact same block you buy from EK directly!
