Well, the more I read about it the more confusing it gets. It seems that there is no way to know what a particular board will do until you try it. Mine worked with an x6800 ES for a month before it had this problem, but other people had to RMA it 2 or 3 times to get a board that would work. Some times a bios flash to a beta bios fixes it...for others it doesnt. It also depends on the ram too which is strange because on the box that comes with the mobo it says clearly that it is DDR2 800/667/533 compatible but there is no mention of DDR2 800 in the manual at all. There isnt even a vendor compatibility list for DDR2 800. This also is hit and miss for some people. My setup was working with corsair 1066 but some people cant even get high end 800 dimms to work.
So basically you might get lucky you might not. You might want to try it out of the case first in case you have to play with it. I would also keep a different (non core 2) processor handy. If it wont post with the x6800 you can swap in a pentium D or something and at least get into the bios.
Asus really rushed this sucker out and hopefully soon they will be able to fix this issue with a bios update...guess we will see. Good luck on your setup. One more thing: Even when my rig was working...every now and then it would do strage things like fail for overvoltage or overclock during post...but I could never get it to overclock in the first place. I had to go into the bios and exit right out...then it would work. Another time it had crazy temp readings when it jumped from -35 to 107 in 1 second setting off alarms and what not! After a reboot it failed post for "CPU temp high" and in the bios the temp was reading 109C. I knew that was not possible so I got back in windows and watched the temp hang around 110C for 10 minutes or so...and in 1 second it went back down to -35 and never came back again. What a pain.
