Want to Build a PC and need help im a noob and confused

Big-Boss

New member
hi want to build a gaming pc and woant to know which motherboard to use

p67 or z68

if p67

asus p8p67 deluxe or gigabyte p67 ud4

or z68

asus z68 pro or gigabyte z68 ud4

there are other models eg asus p67 pro , maximus ud5 ud7 etc whats the difference

i want to use dual graphics crossfire and i7 2600k for oc to 4 ghz 4.5ghz etc

which will be better and future proof thanx

plus since im building a silent gaming pc using fractal r3 and will nh-d14 heatsink work on gigabyte z68 ud4 if not any other heatsink good and quite as nh-d14

thanx

z68 has SSD Caching And Quick Sync, for future-proofing I would wait till june/july for the new AMD chips.

If your set on building your rig now then z68 if you plan on a ssd, if not the p67 would be good.

Aslong as the socket types correspond with the cooler socket type then your set.

What's your budget for the entire build?

no budget getting the following things 1 by 1

looking for

i7 2600k oc to 4-5 ghz

12gb ddr 3 ram (which one is good)

80gb ssd fir os

1tb for other software documents etc

1000w psu which one is good eg cool and quite

2 x ati gpus atleast 1gb each again which one is good

nh-d14 heatsink

fractal r3 case

but dont know which mother board to get

according to forums asus do the best p67 mobo

and z68 gigabyte do good mobos

but dont no whats the difference in p67 mobos ie asus pro , deluxe and maximus

and gigabyte z68 ud3 ud4 n ud5

ps whats the new amd cpus coming out in june july will they be better than i7 2600k

hy are gigabyte mobos better thant asus

I have owned both, and would say that they are the top 2 motherboard makers today. I would happily own both again.

whats better fractal r3 or antec p180 eg quiter

I have an Antec p180 and it can be made quiet. But to do that you have to swap out the stock fans, the cable management in the original P180 was crap and the side panels come with no proper sound dampening material. I don't have an R3 to compare it to, but with the addition of all the sound dampening material and the quiet stock fans...

I would say each case is capable of making a pretty much silent rig, but the P180 requires more work.

thanx alot with you help

1 more thing is asus p8z68-v better or gigabyte z68x-ud4 and want to use 12gb ddr3 which will be good with eaither board as i want to overclock that to 1866mhz

looking for

i7 2600k oc to 4-5 ghz

12gb ddr 3 ram (which one is good) 8gb mushkin blackline 1600Mhz

80gb ssd fir os

1tb for other software documents etc

1000w psu which one is good eg cool and quite corsair HX1000w (aria will have one for sale for £110 tomorrow limited stock)

2 x ati gpus atleast 1gb each again which one is good Suggest a single 6950 or crossfire 6870 if it's a must

nh-d14 heatsink

fractal r3 case

just gonna just in a sec the processor your looking at is for sandy bridge which uses duel-channel kits. Your looking for either 4,8 or 16 gb kits so

2x2gb

4x2gb

2x4gb

that sort of idea and I'd suggest looking on aria tomorrow as they've to have a 8gb 1866mhz kit going for £60

good brands for memory

mushkin(my personal preference)

Corsair

Kingston

secondly why 2x1gb? is crossfire a must? the general rule is get the best single card you can afford so you can crossfire at a later date to future proof. You could go for the radeon 6960 good card and 2gb onboard memory.

thirdly for powersupply I suggest corsairs HX or AX range(main difference is the HX is semi-modular modular not including 8-pin connection and 24-pin connection the AX is fully modular)

Will you be using a single monitor because the only reason for needing high amounts of memory is to process large resolutions such as those used when using eyefinity.

last note I'd got for the Z67-gigabyte but both will do you well. Hope that helps

I never liked the P180 the door's always break off.

also Gigabyte vs Asus is personal preference.

Keep in mind Asus has not released all its z68 boards yet there is better to come out yet. New Maximus boards

thanx for the help so your saying icant use 12gb ram the next after 8gb is 16gb basically 4x4gb

for me then

and one more thing how about two 1gb ati 6870 in crossfire as they have good bench mark results and i will be using one monitor and the pc mainly for video editing and gaiming

is this board better Gigabyte GA-Z68X-UD5 or asus p8z68-v

or p8p67 deluxe but i heard they have issues

tbh I would go for the p8p67 deluxe because i dont think the z68 chipset is alot better than the p67.

As for the 2600k it doesn't really produce a much higher overclock than the 2500k and

the intel processors coming out later this year will be better but if you always waited for the best and newest you would never actually get a computer

I would encourage 8GB of ram for now 2x4 then upgrade later if you feel it;s needed as most things won;t even use that, keep in mine when buying an OS you'll be needing the 64-bit edition.

Remember when editing the main bulk of the editing is done by the CPU not the GPU(With the exception of the mercury render system) and any processing that requires alot of memory is the system memory(that 8 or 16gb) so the memory of the gpu doesn't matter too much that said the simple answer is yes a 6870 sli is pretty good performance

have a read at the comments here

just added notes

your SSD the fastest avalible on the market atm is a OCZ vertex 3 but most SSD's perform pretty amazingly these days, mushkin are good for the price aswell as kingston.

HDD pick something with a long warranty

  • P67 if its just for gaming, if you encode videos, then Z68 is good, plus with Z68 you can use the IGP (thats good for encoding videos and also allows ur PC to keep going if your GPU gets screwed.
  • Either the Gigabyte or the ASUS, ASUS one might have more features, but the game frame rates will be very similar. I have the P8Z68V-PRO and its a great board.
  • The difference usually is features, things like the UD7 will support two graphics card at x16/x16, rather than the x8/x8 which is normal.
  • This leads me on to another thing-don't get crossfire, get the fastest singly graphics card you can get. If you must, go for AMD and get a 6970, but nVidia at the moment is better, and a 560Ti or 570 is more than enough for gaming, a 580 if you have the cash. Look at MSi Twin Frozr II/III editions, they have superb noise levels and temperatures.
  • If its just for gaming, the i5-2500K is perfectly fine, the 2600K has HyperThreading, but most games won't take advantage of this, and also the 2500K is a lot cheaper, so you save some cash there.
  • If you want cool and quiet, the D14 is the way to go, it will fit on those motherboards, just make sure your RAM doesn't have tall heatsinks (I reccommend Mushkin RAM). The Fractal R3 is a good case. Also remember that the best way to make a PC quieter is to buy components which are quieter.
  • For that, I recommend a quiet PSU-the Corsair AX850/750 is absolutely perfect, and when idle, the fan isn't actually on. Also look at upgrading the case fans perhaps, the Noctua NF-P12 and NF-P14 FLX editions are good. Noctua NH-D14 is quiet, and so are the Twin Frozr II/III cooling solution from MSi.

will the new amds have different sockets i know its a daft question lol?

Not these ones, but there is an FM2 socket next year I think

  • 12GB is overkill, in fact it won't even work as you need Dual Kits (i.e. 1/2/4 sticks) in your system. 8GB is absolutely fine.
  • Get a 128GB SSD- I reccommend the Crucial M4 128GB, look at my rig gallery to see some speeds
  • For storage, get a Western Digital Green 1TB, they are basically silent, yet also fast- I get 110MB read and write.
  • Corsair AX850W, 1000W is overkill and unnecessary, and 850 will do you fine.
  • ATi don't exist anymore
    sad.gif
  • But don't waste it on Xfire or SLi, get a single 6970 or a single GTX 560Ti/570/580 (580 is the best here, will last you the longest also).
hi any one know about any glossy white dvd or blueray drive i need one for fractal r3 case

Get an external one then, I haven't seen many.

6990 is a dual GPU setup in a single card. Effectively crossfire in one card so depends a great deal on drivers to scale well with games.

So yes it's better (more powerful) than the single GPU 580.

Like I said though it all depends on driver support, which both NVIDIA and AMD seem to be quite good at these days.
