Want to Build a PC and need help im a noob and confused

A friend of mine just built his new rig with a 2500k and a Asus P8P67 (think it was the "pro" version, not deluxe).. He bought Mushkin Blackline 1600Mhz ram and it just wouldn't boot with it at all, couldn't get into the bios, and the motherboards memory error LED's where lit up..

We tried the "MemOK" function on the motherboard with no luck, and also cleared the cmos completely, also tried with only 1 or 2 sticks.. No luck. He had to get new ram, think he got Gskill ripjawsx..

I just saw that motherboard and the muskhin ram mentioned in here and would recommend you to either get another motherboard and the mushkin ram.. Or the same motherboard and the mushkin ram..

Just not the Asus and mushkin ram. The motherboard has some ram problems, and that's one of the ram's that doesnt seem to work :/

hi 6950 from gigabyte any good or is the msi alternative better

I personally would go MSi all the way! The Twin Fozr cooler is epic!

Good luck with your rig mate

I think you can bios flash the 6950's to a 6970 or something if i remember i saw something about this wile when i was reasearching whats cards to put in my new rig.

thans guys

i wanted a gigabyte z68 ud5 for osx installation and so will ripjaw go better with that

Mushkin should work as well, anyone in here with Z68 motherboards and Mushkin ram?

The problem was probably only with the Asus model motherboard..

Its very unlikely that the Mushkin Blackline is gonna cause any problems, so just go with that if you want, Ripjaw should work perfectly fine as well

It's up to you I guess

wats a better brand mushkin or g skill what good between them too

plus ebuyer is selling 8gb gskill 1600mhz with 9.9.9.24 timing for £45

I did some googling, quality and performance should be around the same with both brands, Mushkin apparently has alot better customer service and warranty, and thats a big plus..

Can't really go wrong with either, I would go Mushkin if I could though. But if you find G Skill for alot cheaper and check reviews that that exact kit doesn't have problems than go for it if you wanna save money..

ive checked the gskill mem it has lifetime warranty plus it looks better

but if you guys insist with mushkin il go for thatps does that have lifetime warranty

thanks bud link doesnt work but found it ive bought 16gb 4* 4gb

ps whats different between redline and blackline

Link works now, 2x4gb of Blacline I have them myself.

The difference between the Redline and the Blackline are the timmings, the Redline has lower timings and are faster. The Redline also come in 1866mhz and 2133mhz versions as well which obviously are faster than the 1600mhz ones.

hi guys i want to know how should i do the fan arrangement in the fractal r3 case i will have 4 fans

ps is this arrangement any good

1 bottom (intake)

one in back and (exhaust)

two fans on the front (intake)

which fan should i used besides noctua ones mentioned early on or are those suffecient for me

i need it in a way good cooling and specialy silent , which intake fans should i get and which one for blowing air out

thanx

will be appreciated

I chose the Gigabyte z68-ud3r-b3 and love it. To go with the board I chose the corsair vengeance 8gb (2x4gb) and together with my MSI GTX 570 it rocks. I only chose an i5 2500 (4ghz) as I want to see what ivy brings to the table.

Initially if its silence you're going for start off with 3 fans 2 in the front & 1 rear as exhaust & leave all the moduvents in. If you find that your temps are too high add an exhaust fan in the roof. Personally I wouldn't bother with a fan in the floor it just tends to suck dust into your rig.

The stock fractal fans are pretty quiet, I'd only really swap them if you're going for a theme or want them to match your heatsink fans.

hi guy

you know the ragged points you have on the backplate of the mobo

do you have to remove them

as when i put my mobo in the case theres a 1mm to 1.5mm gap between the back panel and the ports eg usb etc on the mobo

all the wholes on mobo align with the case mobo stands

ps i have 11 mobo stands with my case but the mother board only has 9 holes do i install 9 or 11 (says install all 11 on fractal r3 case manual)

plus theres no atx diagram with the case to show me where to install the mobo stands shall i match them with the mobo

thanx

Only install as many motherboard standoffs into your case as you have holes in your motherboard. Don't forget to install the i/o shield into the case first.

hi what about the metal pointings you have on the inside of the back plate on each port whole

do you remove them or leave them if so what are they for
