VMWare Server

Anyone have any experiance with VMware server?

I'm trying to set up a mail server, i configure and install it fine in a virtual machine, but i can not access the web gui using the host pc, or another on the network. Now i know the install went fine (clarkconnect). I have a feeling its a setting in vmware. I would like it to have an ip as if it were a real machine on the network.

Anyone know what setting i will need, bridged ect.

Ta much!

I normally use the standard bridged settings in vmware and then set up my linux install with a static IP address etc.

Can you ping the IP you've assigned to your linux box?

yeah, i've set it up with bridged and i cannot ping it. Will loom over the settings again.

EDIT: just checked my settings, vmware is set to bridge with my enabled nic. Linux has a static ip of 192.168.0.100, same mask as the rest of the network. But it has a bcask of 192.68.0.255, what the hell is bask? is the same as gateway?

Is that deffo the broadcast address you have in there? It's missing a 1 from 168 if it is..

sure there isnt a firewall blocking the pings/icmp?

Use vmware server on about 15 servers, i know it a fair bit.

sorted it out, that broadcast address was missing a 1, just like xms said. Still cant get to the web gui of clarkconnect.

i have ubuntu 7.04 server installed, you know of any good guides to setting up a mail server?

ta!

It might be a bit of a learning curve, but google DBMail. Its a mail server based on a MySQL back end. Possibly a bit OTT for what you want, but it has soem great features.

fairly confident with mysql, so it might be ok. I just wish i had more time to play with linux. :(
