Try a browser other than IE7 - it should work fine.

Using a Logitech keyboard and a very old IntelliMouse Explorer, I tried this with Vista 64 (Ultimate) and the x64 500Hz file. After restart not a single USB-device was responding to input. Luckily enough I had a USB/PS2-adapter, so I could get my keyboard working, thus being able to login and revert the changes.

This little hack work great up until today when I updated Vista. Its been a while since i updated my machine so I cant tell which update did it but there was sixteen altogether. I have Vista Ultimate x64. Has anyone else had this problem? I tried replacing the usbport files again both 500 and 1000 Hz but had to go back to the old usbport file. Maybe the Tweaked files need to be updated?

Ty for hack worked for me nicely. I had a little trouble in the beginning goin into safemode with f8. What i did is went to run, typed in msconfig.exe then under boot.ini put a check on "safemode" and click ok. Just make sure after you do the hack to go back and uncheck safemode and restart. I tried other hacks for this that were advertised to work but did nothing for me all they did was stoped my mouse from working. By the way Im running windows vista ultimate with mx518 mouse. I tested this on Wolfeinstein enemy territory and it worked like a charm.

Hmm I can't modify the usbport.sys -file even though I run the commands in the instructions and I am running my vista in safe mode. It keeps saying "you can't modify this file". Anything I can do about it?

I think when you did the hack where it says put " user name here" you have to make sure its the one that has the admin rights. Also you can try right clicking on usbport.sys and properties then 'security' then click on "add' a box should pop up (im thinkin out of my head since at work) type in there administrator and click on find it should find the administrator file then hit "ok" it will promp you blabla if you modify, anyways click yes and then go back and try to change it to usbport.old. Sorry i cant be more specific just that im at work and they use xp here.

In case anyone would like oc'ing their mice using qute more advanced yet easy way, google for hidusbf(USB Mouse Rate Adjuster by SweetLow). No need to copy/paste anything, no restart required typically, and most important imo, that this approach affects only mouse, so other usb devices operate @ default frequency, unless you deliberately put them in list. And don't let the fact that developer and most of concernining topics are in russian, there's complete english guide included with the program. Get it here. Don't forget to check for viruses though. xD

This made my mouse unuseable and had to plug it in another usb to get it to work again and it put it back at 125hz.

per instructions. i tried to use this, just makes my mouse/KB and any other usb device non responsive in windows. Even in safe mode! I had to plug a ps/2 mouse in to replace the file and get things working.

mobo:ip35 pro.

any ideas?

Now non responsive

If you have vista updated already that might be the problem> I had this working on my computer for months until I installed some updates Then all my usb devices including my mouse where non responsive. So I had to go back to the old usb port file.

If I Quote myself here...

also getting no response from usb devices after changing the sys file.

using vista x64 ultimate, perhaps an updated file is in order?

thanks

EDIT: just manually edited the original usbport.sys file, same result, looks like maybe vista has upped the integrity checks or something

Hy!

First, sorry for my english!!!

I tryed that modification, i have a Vista Ultimate X86, MX518 Logitech. I changed that usbport.sys. The mouse in 500Hz work fine.

But my G15 keyboard it frozed. After every restart have that same problem.

Ideas???

Cordless mouse problem

I have suspicion that logitech (or even not only logitech?) USB-cordless mouses can't achieve more than 125Hz sample rate.. am I right? Is there anyone who could set on his cordless mouse more than 125Hz???

According to NGOHQ.com, Vista users must uninstall the following updates to use the patched files:

* Update for Windows Vista (KB938979)

* Update for Windows Vista (KB932596)

I suppose that you are running the 32bit version of Vista. I my case (Vista/64bit) even this not worked :(

Nope 64-bit ultimate. You'll want to double check to see if the updates where uninstalled, if they are still there, uninstall one reboot when prompted then uninstall the other reboot startup then reboot again in safe mode to apply the modded files with the instructions if you haven't already. This this is what I had to do because on the first run the updates didn't uninstall correctly for me. I hope this helps.

You just have to turn off the "install updates automatically" feature in Windows Update settings .. try to select any other option :) And then, when windows asks you to confirm next update, click [ manual install ] or something like that, then uncheck those unwanted updates and click ok. There may be some checkbox like "never ask me again to install this updates" or st. But I'm not sure.

Anyway ... In my case - i removed unwanted updates, replaced of the old usbport.sys with the new one, but i was still stuck at 125Hz update rate - using my old Logitech MX 700.

After all that failing attempts i was so angry, so that I bought the new Logi G5 and right now I'm moving my cursor @500Hz :)

So.. Already tried all posibilites? Still no luck? It's not necessarily in between of your chair and keyboard, it may be your mouse...

Well actually i've done that, one stays deleted, the other keep coming back. But i guess i could get it working if i try little harder. :)

Btw about logitech g5, think im gonna go this path as well. did you manage to set 500hz and remove vista-mouse-accel smoothly?

there are some Major drawbacks by uninstalling those updates though, at least in my case.

The performance update really made a noticeable difference for my machine.

I have a bfg 8800 640mb GTS OC2 , when I had the update I could Overclock that suckers ram All the way to the max with riva tuner (850MHz to 1275Mhz with no problems), normally you wouldn't have to do that with such a beast of a card but I have oblivion totally modded up with High res model and texture mods I mean it looks freakin beautiful like a totally different game, The framerate is high but if i don't over clock the ram I get loading pauses every five steps in the game; overclocked it runs flawlessly. Any way what I'm getting at is without this update I can't overclock this card one single MHz with out serious artifacts all over the place and crashes.

Just thought I'd give a heads up I hope its possible to get a working cracked usbport file that gets along with the Vista 64 updates in the the future till then I may have to go back to the crappy Microsoft mouse rate. :(

Well, I did followed all the steps, and on startup, none of my USB devices would move, but they would were still on. I tried booting again into Safe mode, same problem.

Is there anyway to fix this WITHOUT reinstalling Vista (As I have too many important files that I can't lose on there)
