Vista usbport.sys 500hz mouse polling rate.

Hi,

I tried both methods,none worked.

After following the instructions for the first one my mouse and keyboard work only if I disable Driver Signature( the polling rate still how it was) , but they don't work in the safe mode so I can't replace the usbport.sys .

Any tips how I could replace it with the original? ( I don't really want to reinstall windows)

OS: Vista Ultimate x64

polling rate

I have a marble trackball and really want this hack. I can't figure for the life of me why I can't gain admin rights. I copy and pasted everything in. Have the new file but cant get the old on renamed. Please help me.

some help

i went through this guide and ran into a problem, it will not let me rename my usbport.sys it gives me errors. any help?

can anyone help me out, I've done the whole overclocky mouse thing but when I test it in mouserate.exe the polling rate seems to depend on the speed I'm moving the mouse at even on stock settings. i.e. if I move it really slow I get as low as 1 or even 0hz, faster I get gradually more and if I keep the mouse moving quickly I get the constant 500hz I want. Any idea how to get the polling rate consistent? If I leave it still it alternates between 6hz and 2500ish. I'm using a razor diamondback and Im on vista 64bit. I used the hidusbf method. Thanks in advance.

edit: btw using the method posted in this thread (downloading with either firefox or IE) just gives me dead USB ports, and I reverted HIDUSB changes before trying this one. Also I'm in test mode and I used the driver signer thing to driver sign usbport.sys. Really have no idea what I'm doing wrong. Is it just impossible in vista sp2?

I tried this and im on windows 7. After the restart lost connection to my keyboard and my mouse.I had to restore to an earlier time in order my pc to be functional again. If this does indeed work what shall i do on windows 7?

Thought i'd share this file with you guys as it's taken me ages to hex edit, and it may come in handy for anyone who is planning on gaming on Vista.

These files will increase your USB polling frequency from the Windows Vista default of 125hz to 500hz or 1000hz making your mouse much more responsive in gaming.

This file will only work on the RTM/Final version of Vista 32-Bit and 64-bit. If you want the same hack under Windows XP just search google for "XP usbport.sys 500hz".

How to install

1. Restart Vista and repeatedly press F8 to bring up the boot menu. Select 'Safe Mode'.

2. Run the following command from the Run box: bcdedit -set loadoptions DDISABLE_INTEGRITY_CHECKS

3. Run the following command from the Run box: takeown /f "C:WindowsSystem32Driversusbport.sys"

4. Run the following command from the Run box: cacls "C:WindowsSystem32Driversusbport.sys" /G username:F

(replace username with your username)

5. Open C:WindowsSystem32Drivers and locate the existing usbport.sys

6. Rename usbport.sys to usbport.old

7. Copy the usbport.sys in the file below (which corresponds with your vista version and desired usb frequency).

8. Restart Windows

9. Run mouserate.exe to verify that you now have a 500/1000hz polling rate.

I just Did all of that and i'm on windows 7.After the restart my keyboard and mice were not working at all.So i had to restore to an earlier time with the windows reinstall cd.Is there any work around in the position i am in? i really need to get my 500 hertz working. Thanks for your time
