Vapo & Hiper

I'm gettign a Vapo XE and I have the Hiper 580Watt Psu. Am I gonna have a problem with the split rails? If so, can I just use a 2nd psu to run the vapo until I have enough $ to buy a single rail psu like the pc p&c 510sli? What size psu would the 2nd psu have to be in order to run the Vapo?

You can use a 2nd PSU but it take the control out of it - plus u might me alright with what you have, XE's a re funny blighters, some more forgiving than others.

You wont blow anything up trying so go for it.

So what's the worst that could happen and what would be the remedy for that aside from buyin another new psu(since I just bought my hiper 580)? If all works well, then the system should just boot up and be ready to go? Anything special I should do during installation or anything I should look for?

Just take ur time and double check it all before you start up. It'll work or it it wont - no worries.

Aprt from waht we have already talked about I dont think there are any more options.

All you should have to do is wire up one PSU to the XE so that when you turn that PSU on (paperclip in the correct pins on the ATX plug and then you can make a proper switch once you have got it all sorted) the vapochill gets down to temp and then just boot the system normally yourself from the button on the front once the vapochill gets cold enough.

Worst that could happen is if you forget to turn the vapochill on, but then the system would just shut itself down once the CPU gets too hot.

Dual rail PSUs dont work well with the 12V Vapochill CC's, the 2 PSU route is the best for ease of use and compatability.

Finding a place for the second PSU can be a pain, some have been put on the floor of the case, others at the rear of the compressor cabinet. Alternatively you can buy a 12V TEC PSU which can fit into a drive bay. You can also get SFF PSUs which are strong enough and nice and small.

The XE draws a maximum of 8.8A on the 12V rail, so make sure you get a PSU with at least 12A on the 12V rail, probably about 14A to be safe.

Hope this helps.

Pins 4 & 6, if I recall correctly, will power up the psu correctly? Where would I find a 12V TEC PSU?

To buy new they cost £100 which kind of defeats the object seems as PCP510w is only £160,plus those tec psu's run really hot.

If you still want one i can P.M you the link.

But you would be better off saving your money and getting one off Phil.

Ah, gotcha. What's his handle on these forums? Are these forums based in the US or over in Europe? Does he do shipping to the US?

This is a UK based Forum - are you from over the pond my friend? If so what part?

Speak to Phil Stanbridge for overseas shipping - although I suspect there are other e-tailors closer to home we cna point you to if required (assuming you are in the good old USA).

You guys think this will support a vapo/watercooled system? I wanna use my Koolance PC3-725BK case and build a black aluminum enclosure underneath for the compressor. I want to use the vapo for the cpu and the watercooling for the gpu/NB/Mem/hdd's. Has this been done before? Input would be f'ing awesome! Thanks in advance everybody. Hope you all had a merry christmas and a happy new year.

It should support your system. Are you wanting to put your XE at the bottom? You cant do that because the evaporator will not reach the CPU.

Looking at your case actually it may reach because you can mount the motherboard upside down. You must make sure you have a point in the line lower than the compressor (a J bend) so that you dont get any oil return to the compressor.

Other than that if you dont mind losing 2/3 drive bays you could still mount it in the top of the case.

i was under the impression the older vapos HAD to be above the socket... cant remember why though ...

Im not too hot on phase though, since ive never used it, so could be wrong, just i read that somewhere
