Use different type of monitor for Nvidia Surround?

This question has probably been asked a hundred times, but i can't seem to find the answer anywhere. Either that, or no seems to have a definitive yes or no. As this forum has helped me several times in the past, I pose this question to you wiser and and more experienced PC enthusiasts. Can i use a differnet type of monitor with my current one to enable Nvidia Surround? I have read in places that if you use the 2d version it might work, but other places say it wont. here is a bit more info.

I currently own a BenQ XL2420TE 24 inch monitor with a max refresh at 144hz
In my system i have a GTX Titan, Intel Core i7-3930k, and 32GB of ram, hardware is not an issue.

I was looking at getting a Pair of BenQ XL2420T 24 inch monitors with the same specs. Will it work?

I believe you need to have it be the same Native resolution. And needs to have the same refresh rate. other then that you can pretty much use whatever you want. I have 3 different screens out of 4 and they all work together at 1080p and 60 hz refresh rate. However im not positive about the refresh rate but about 99% sure that its needs to be the same.

i believe it will go down to the lowest common denominator resolution, so yes, the resolutions needs to match or it'l go screwy.

example, I have 2 1920x1200 screens, and tried surround with a 1920x1080 screen and all three switched to 1920x1080 and didn't scale properly, all were stretched and a bit iffy. Granted, I didn't spend a lot of time debugging/fixing it but I only had the screen for a weekend so couldn't really be bothered, so I don't if you can physically fix/force it to work but I'd say probably not.
