usb external sound

hi i looking for a bit of advice,im thinking of getting a usb sound card/stick and was wondering if anyone had any views on them,as i could do with one for a spare pc but dont want to buy one and it be complete poo

so are they worth the money ??

The cheap ones ive used/had sounded no different to onboard sound and sometimes a little worse, enermax are bringing one out soon that looks realy funky, not seen any reviews yet tho LINKY

Have a SoundBlaster SB1090 which is a USB external sound card, in essence it's mostly the driver that improves the sound but the bass is way clearer, and the sound just has richer quality, the sound card costs about £50 so it's about midrange. Cheap ones wil make basically no difference though.

Honestly I wouldn't get a usb soundcard if you want a usb device get a USB DAC like an Audioengine d1 169USD which will do great music clarity not sure about sound though or if you want to go all crazy get a hifiman ef2a usb dac/tube amp combo which will be amazing for music after burn in which is also 169 usd
