I`ve always thought that when I see a movie on a HD channel, and it happens to be an 80/90s film, that has no way of ever possibly being HD ever, that they`re doing some kind of upscaling b4 broadcast and there`s ur answer.

Well..

.. happened to catch Aerobics OZ Style on Sky Sports HD (they`re old repeat things from the 90s or something) -- oooo

oooo

you've lost me here what are you trying to say?

if you're asking how they're released old films in HD its possible (to my knowledge) as films were on 'film' which technically is higher resolution when converted to digital, than 1080p is

(quite alot higher) so it is possible :)

but still i'm a little lost as to what it is exactly that you're trying to say :P

Nah, just the quality of an upscaled HD from a regular recording that they run on a regular channel.

The TV broadcasters don`t hold cinematic copies of films, they `have what they`re given`, often magnetic tape, is still in wide use. (they don`t chose what to broadcast and select it from a drive or anything - although News is done that way and `live` stuff)

Close up mind, u can see blockiness - like they had railings behind them and they were jagged. But from a distance, looking at the picture, it looks really good.

Try watching TheSimpsons on Sky1HD - now that`s a poor upscale job, they make a 90 degree letterbox out of the conversion and u lose some top&bottom.
