Hello was hoping on some advice from you lot as you seem to know what your on about, unlike me.

My current setup: Dual Core 3.0gig, Asrock M/B (Crap I Know), 1Gig DDR2, 2x200gig SATA Raid0 and HIS Ati 256DDR2 Radeon.

Want to upgrade to Core2 but unsure of which one.

Firstly I shall be purchasing Gigabyte GA 965P DS3 motherboard from O/C for £75 been told its a good board for overclocking at reasonable price.

Will also purchase 2X1gig Sticks of Geil DDR Ram - Approx £70ish

But unsure about cpu - probaly got about 130ish pounds maybe push abit more but unsure of whether to go for 800fsb or 1066fsb

never overclocked previously but hoping for something to reach the 3gig mark

Hope someone can offer me some sound advice.......thanks

OC to 3Ghz

Thank you browney just bookmarked them products from the microsdirect website - prices are very good too.

Appreciated

IMO spend a bit more and get a E6600 and a better mobo. The DS3 results have never been too impressive tbh. The new batches of E4300 are getting worse too. That is if you can afford it.

Fair enough ill probably spend that bit more for e6600 but can u suggest a motherboard.....is the gigabyte p965 ds3 no good??

budget for motherboard about £75 pounds

The DS5 is a bit sketchy imo. Ive got a P5N-E SLI that only cost me £75 the week it came out so it should be a bit cheaper now. While im not 100% satisfied with it its been a pretty good buy and would recommend it if on a budget. Other options ive seen would be the Abit AB9 (maybe the IB9 even, but i haven't read anything other than a sellers description on that). If you can strech too £100 you get a few very nice options, including the DFI 965-s dark, the P5k and the P5B-E Plus.

Thanks for your help, just checked out the Asus P5N-E SLi @ £78 from O/C has some good reviews - ill probably go with this one if your saying its better than the Gigabyte DS3.

THanks again to everyone with your help

Well i can get my E4300 up too 3.6ghz on my p5n-e. whereas hyper cant get his above 3ghz on his ds3:rolleyes:

The Gigabyte P35C-DS3R seems to be a fantastic board at the mo, seems to be a no brainer to me with the current crop of P965s or 975s falling by the wayside....i`m starting to sound like a bot of a fanboy now:rolleyes:
