Hey guys, got recomended to this shop/forum by Ferret from the OCuK forums and im sure glad i have stumbled across into here, also wanna say hi to the people whos names i recognise from OCuK forums too :P

Next month im hoping to have saved enuff to buy my ST from here (i just splashed out on a new computer this month so a bit tight for cash)

I asked some questions on the OCuK forum but the people i was trying to target must of missed the thread, and on the OCuK forums people get off the topic far too easily.

Before i definately set my heart on buying the ST i need to know if my system is gonna be ok.

I have:

Asus P4C800-E Deluxe mobo

P4 3Ghz (from OCuK - im told its a new chipset that can be pushed further..?)

I also have 1gig of Geil PC 3500 Ultra Platinum ram in my PC.

My first worry is my ram, will it work ok? i cant afford to replace it as i spent about £200 on getting it only a cpl of months ago!

Also i was wnating to get a 2nd matched pair of this ram too, will the PC overclock ok with 4 sticks of this stuff in it?

My aim is to exceed 4ghz, i really would be over the moon if i can run at 4ghz stable and leave it on all the time without it crashing etc.

Last question, i have a 9800Pro that seems to run pretty hot (no idea why :S) having prometia on the CPU i would hope would cool the ambient temperature of the case, will this make it better to overclock my 9800Pro, i have an artic silencer and ramsinks on my chips and i cant get better than 400/380 on cool day and 380/375 on a hot day, i want to get the core up a bit more!

Thanks guys i look forward to a reply :D

Perhaps you got one of the SL6WU which are overclocking higher and higher near 4ghz on air...

You ram will be fine once you use your 5/4 divider...if you can go higher and your ram cant take it use your 3/2 divider...

everything is looking fine in your setup, using another two sticks in your setup will prolly reduce your max fsb though...

Forgive me for being such a n00b but where is the "reply" button, i had to click on quote and then dlete the quote :P

Anyway Brwmogazos, not sure wot stepping the CPU is as i havent taken delivery of it yet, shud be here 2moro, i certinaly hope it is a nice fancy one.

Secondly, i only was going to get a second gig of ram because i thought it would make my PC better for gaming wether it actually will or not i have no idea :P What would you do, but it or not becuase your expertise is good enuff for me ;)

Cheers dude!

Personally mate I'd stay with the 1Gb and keep the cash and spend it on something else for the computer.

The reply button is right below this text

Yeah you've got it in threaded mode. Go to Display modes in thetop right and go to Linear mode. You should be able to see it then.

yay its fixed now, thanks for that guys, funny thing is that i didnt change anything thats just how it was wen i registered :S

Your 9800pro is at very low speeds. Have you tried reseating the artic cooler? What thermal paste did you use?

Also do you own a multimeter, could be undervaulting your core?

yeah i have a multi meter somewhere dad used to be an electrician so we got some various tools arround the house.

When it comes to that kind of stuff im a n00b so id need help definately.

Ive used the normal supplied compound with the gfx card and ive also used coolermasters standard thermal compoud (both are pretty the same i think) i aint purcashed artic silver yet.

cheers ferret

Shows where to read the voltage from and how to mod it.

Maplin have those resistors if you decide to do it.

Don't do the memory volt mod, I have heard there is a good chance to kill your card.

When you removed the artic cooler was there a print on it from the thermal paste on the core? This is normally the best way to tell if you have a good contact. I heard some people had to remove the shim to get a good contact, if you do this be carful not to crush the core.

nah there wasnt and no i aint making a propper conection with the sink, but the shim looks hard to remove....

Thats your problem then, air is not very good at conducting heat :(

Really that shim needs removing, unless you want to use a different cooler. Water and pelt is great, but it comes at a price. My 9800pro was looking like it would do 500/390 (Volt mod + Water + TEC) 99% artifact free before I killed it with a water leak.

hmmmmz im a bit scared of using water tbh, using this prometia on my PC alone is worrying. Is there any information on the best way to remove the shim? if i can get my radeon to 440+ core i wud be estatic :P

eeeek, heh ok ill have a look 2moro wen my P4 comes, about this volt modding stuff, u recomend it? all these other people who get 400+ on the core without volt mods, how they do it?

They have contact with their heatsinks.

Really its up to you if you volt mod or not, if you are staying on air I would not bother as you will not be able to use as much volts or get rid of the heat as good.
