Upgrading my PSU

Hi

I am planning to get a decent GPU over the next couple of weeks and I have a few questions. First of all, this is my current setup:

CPU: Intel Core I7 2600k 3,4Ghz
GPU: Ati Radeon HD 6450 1GB
RAM: 8GB
Mainboard: Asrock z68 extreme3 gen3
PSU: BeQuiet Straight Power E9 400W
Windows 7 64Bit

I am planning to go for the GTX 970 from MSI. Therefore I will be needing a new PSU. Now I asked on the graphics section of this forum and the RM 550 was recommended to me. Now I am slightly confused with the descriptions. According to Amazon, it is compatible with Intel Haswell and Z87 mainboards. Does this mean it isn`t compatible with my setup?. Also when it comes to measurements, with my current PSU it says '16 x 15 x 8.6 cm' but with the Corsair one it says: '15 x 8,6 x 16 cm'. Is this just a different way to write the same thing, or does it actually make a difference? (will it end upside down or something?) All in all: Is this PSU compatible with my system and will it fit into my case like my current PSU?

Thanks in advance for your answers :).

The PSU will not give you any incompatibility issues. The PSU problem was only due to Haswell C6 and C7 power states in conjunction with bad/low quality PSUs.

It just means the PSU can supply stable voltages from 0-their rated wattage.

To give a 100% accurate answer, I would need to know the case that you are using.

Nonetheless, it should fit fine, assuming you are using the standard mounting location for the PSU (I.E the one that is premade with the case.). Seeing as how you are using the beQuiet Straight Power E9 400W fine, I wouldnt worry.

The orientation either fan up or fan down is more user preference than anything.

What case are you using?

And considering your listed specifications, the PSU for the most part would be able operate in fanless mode anyways. Doesnt mean I would reconmend the fan intake be blocked though, just face it to intake from within the case if the other orientation is blocked.

Ok so I just got a good offer for the gtx 970 from EVGA. Two things: 1. Is it good? 2. Is the RM 550W still sufficient?
Thanks in advance!
