Upgrade i3 to i5 or i7 low power usage

I'm finnaly in work and itching to upgrade my pc,
I'm currently running a i3 haswell and a gtx 750.

I'm hoping to upgrade the gpu to gtx 970 itx version,
Iv already upgraded the 40gb ssd to a 512gb ssd
I'm keeping my h81 board as I'm not overclocking I have maxed out the ram now 16gb at 1600mhz

So this leaves the cpu due to the case I can only run a low profile cooler so iv been looking at the i5 and i7 t versions (low power)

Or will I be fine with a none k version... When I say low profile we are talking stock cooler height maybe a bit bigger so looking at Noctia lp coolers

Go for the i7 seeing as the price isn't that much more and you get Hyperthreading which is quite useful :)

Personally getting a "T" or even non "K" version is not a good idea, Say you want to overclock and get more performance down the road, You won't be able to, Plus a proper cooler doesn't cost that much considering the extra performance you'll be getting out of the chip.

you could get an i7 4790, it is at 4GHz, you don't really need to overclock it. that is the best you can do without overclocking, which would need a new motherboard.

Athough if you got the K it would turbo to 4.4 and you could just manually set the volts etc

Im very much of the get a quiet cooler and the K CPU train of thought. The Noctua L12 cooler would be perfect for what you need....

Not to be a brown nose but, This right here !!!

Logically it makes the most sense.

Always get the k versions of CPUs for overclocking as it is a lot of extra performance for very little extra money.

Also using the k versions could actually save money in the long run as it can put off the need to upgrade for longer.

This +1

Take notice of Kaapstad as in general he's kind of the tech communities tester when it comes to all things CPU + GPU ^_^
