Intel or AMD

Hey there!

The time has come for an upgrade from my trusty Intel i5-8600K and powerful GTX 1080 Ti.

I mainly use my setup for gaming—primarily *World of Warcraft* and *Call of Duty* at 1440p, with Spotify or YouTube running in the background.

I’ve been looking at some options in Australian dollars, and here’s what I’ve found so far.

Intel Core Ultra 7 265K Processor $699

AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D Processor $699

I've always used Intel, but I'm considering making the big switch to Team Red.

Thoughts, recommendations, and any advice would be really helpful!

Looks solid although I'd try and get Corsair 6000 CL30 as that's the sweetspot for the 7800X3D, It responds quite nicely to lower timings.

For less money and the same performance try a 7900XTX if you can get one, as Raytracing isn't all that it's cracked up to be see HUB's review on it, as the raster performance is the same if not better with the AMD GPU, and as Dicey said get some CL 30 6000 RAM it'll give you better performance with that CPU.

I'd also point out that AMD now has their own frame gen built into their driver with AFMF2 and I use it with everything, Cap frames to 60 via the driver, Enable AFMF2 and enjoy a 120FPS-like experience but with the power/heat cost of 60.

Looks good I would offer the advice that the motherboard could be dropped the the B650 or 650E chipset to save money. Unless you need the 870E features you could save a chunk of cash and use it towards a cheap GPU to game on for a bit.

I also agree with the above the CL30 memory is a no brainer. Especially for only $10.

Enjoy the build!

Thanks for the advice! I'm aiming to future-proof my setup as Im upgrade from an i5-8600K and GTX 1080 Ti, which have served me well over the past 7 years. I mainly play games like Call of Duty and World of Warcraft, so I'm looking to achieve a similar long-term plan
