Upgrade from 3930k - 5930k

Hey guys,

Hoping you can help me with my decision, I have some money spare this month and want to know if it is worth while the upgrade. If it isn't please could you give me a reason why, and also where the upgrade would benefit me. I have read a few forum posts regarding this kind of upgrade (X79 - X99) and would just like an opinion based more on what I have and what I want to upgrade to.

This is my current setup
Motherboard - MSI X79A-GD65 (8D)
URL: http://www.msi.com/product/mb/X79AGD65_8D.html

CPU - i7 3930k
URL: http://ark.intel.com/products/63697

RAM - Apacer 16GB 1600MHz
URL: http://www.techbuy.com.au/p/194977/MEMORY_MEMORY_DDR-3_RAM/Apacer/DK.08GAK.H9YK2.asp

____________

This is what I want to upgrade to
Motherboard - Asus X99-DELUXE
URL: http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/X99DELUXE/

CPU - i7 5930k
URL: http://ark.intel.com/products/82931

RAM - Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB 4x4GB DDR4 2666MHz C16
URL: http://www.corsair.com/en-au/vengea...66mhz-c16-memory-kit-black-cmk16gx4m4a2666c16

Just one other thing I would like to know is the RAM compatibility with this motherboard, having gone to the Asus website where they mention the "X99 Series Memory Qualified Vendors List (QVL)" the RAM that they mention in the link below, is this RAM that will only work with the mobo or is this just RAM that they recommend? Will the RAM that I linked above work with the mobo?

Cheers

Personally I think you have a great rig already, an wouldn't think it would be cost effective just for ddr4

Yeah, TBH I didn't think it was a worthwhile upgrade but thought that maybe there was a slight chance that it was worth while. Thanks for your insight :)

if those software packages are openGL supported you could get a better gpu, i you really wanted to spend some cash ... that probs will give you a bigger performance boost.

These are my spec's:

I was honestly thinking about this the other weekend when I had a fair amount that I could spend but when, I really thought about it I saw there was no real benefit over what I already have especially considering the price of DDR4.

Personally for me, my next upgrade will be graphics cards because of going the 4K route as the 3930K overclocked is not, really going to be a issue for two or three cards and what software that I have that uses, more than 4 cores can always be made to work faster by overclocking the cpu higher, than it currently is for the time it's needed and then dropped down to the normal day to day speed for when it's not needed.

For you I would just suggest looking at maybe oc'ing the cpu abit if you need it to be faster.

You have a solid system mate I wouldn't upgrade. Try not to double post an use the edit button though

i say upgrade when you feel you need too. If you feel that it is a but slow, but think of maybe upgrading other areas like quicker SSDs or just more SSDs, it is more how much you want to splash out, there is awalys a better chipset around the corner. Also depends if you feel like it is holding you back from doing tasks to full.If it was me, i would hold out.

Thanks for the info. Yeah doesn't seem worth it.

My mobo, CPU and RAM were the first parts I got so they are technically the oldest. So I thought maybe upgrading them would be beneficial.

Would holding back until broadwell be a good idea?

OP you will see practically no improvement at all it will be a total waste of time and money.

I run a lot of benching threads and have seen how the 5930k goes against the 3930k and there is very little difference. You may get a tiny bit more out of the memory performance on the 5930k (this is of no use for most applications) but the 3930k is likely to overclock higher.

If you had massive amounts of number crunching to do then the upgrade path would be to go to a 5960X and overclock it but for gaming it is no better than a 3930k.

Only way to go on x99 would be the 8-core from your current rig but that would be a lot of money given the amount of time you'd actually spend rendering.

Sorry for double posting, I only saw Tripps post after I repsonded to my second repsonse.

Thanks for helping me guys. Looks like its not really worth it after all.

Cheers!

If you really feal the urge to spend your money, you could try find a decent bargain on 4930k and some good 4x4gb 2133-2400mhz ram.

That would be a total waste of money.

I use both a 3930k and 4930k, there would be hardly any difference in performance. If the OPs 3930k is a good clocker it could actually be better than a 4930k upgrade.
