Mixing Memory Sizes

Hi,

It has been a while since I tried mixing memory module sizes and wanted some feedback.

My situation is that I currently have an X570 motherboard, :amd: Ryzen 9 3900X and 64GB of DDR4 RAM (x4 16GB modules).

The modules I currently have have are:

Corsair Vengeance RGB RT 16GB, DDR4, 3600 MHz, Unbuffered, 18-22-22-42, 1.35V

I want to increase my memory capacity for running VM's so I was thinking I could remove x2 modules from the same channel, and replace them with the same make, model and speed of memory only they would be 32GB modules (spec below), to give me 96GB of total memory.

Corsair Vengeance RGB RT 32GB, DDR4, 3600 MHz, Unbuffered, 18-22-22-42, 1.35V

Is this likely to cause any system instability or performance loss?

If this is a valid configuration is it best to have the 16GB or 32GB modules in the 1st channel or will it make no difference?
