Upgrade from 285 Crossfire

Hello all, I have an HTPC case and things can get a little toasty with crossfire in such close quarters. I am currently running dual XFX 285's Double Dissipation edition and considering going with a single card just to keep temps as cool as possible.

My question is what would be the equivalent card to having 285s in crossfire?
And then what would be the next step--a worthwhile upgrade from it? Keep in consideration a card that runs cool as well. I would probably end up selling them to help fund the new card if I were to go for that single card solution: I figure I could get about $150 each.

Thank you

A GTX 980 or 970 would be decent, especially since it has HDMI 2.0. Any of them would be fine as long as it is not too long for your case.

If you want equivalent performance without worrying about OC then go the 980ti route. If your system could handle 2 285s fine, then there shouldn't be a problem. Realistically you should settle for a 980.

If you dont care about HDMI 2.0 and have a 120mm fan slot, the Fury X is an option too.

Probably consider upgrading when the next gen hits.

would a single 970 or single 980 be more powerful than 2 x 285's? seems had to believe, but I have no experience of either.

Reread my post. You need to be more realistic in your demands unless you are prepared to pay (to put it bluntly)
