That's pretty mind blowing to be fair can't wait to see what the likes of Crytek and others can do with this software.

The guy narrating makes it sound like a parody video like it's not a real product, and once I typed the company name into google I found a guy saying it's a scam atm as it's not feasible to replace all the polygons with "atoms" as the amount of data required is immense and apparently it's really hard to animate as well, which is probably why everything in the video was stationary.

So now I don't know what to think lol

What Skyrim would've looked like with this tech

Imagine animals both real and mythical how freaking AWESOME they could look?

Ofcourse this needs to be optimized ALOT but don't you think this looks freaking sweet??

It's the first I have heard of it to be honest, there are links to their website on the youtube page for the vid but there isn't much on there. I hope it's true though because this could change things immensely.

Anyone thinks hybrid between polygons and theese atoms? Like Notch mentions is this crap is hard to animate, so why not use theese for trees and thngs that are STATIC thru out the whole game, and then animated things are made out of polygons? This wouldn't work for a game like BF3 where everything is destructible, but other games that aren't focused on such advanced physics could look very cool imo

It does look very awesome and revolutionary, but me being a programmer and designer the first thing that comes into my mind is what modeling is like with this technology. It is awesome but I would want to use it before I make a sure decision =P.

RAGE looks better IMO. ID - capable of the best graphic engines on earth IMO.

Apparently Unigene are writing a game. Will be interested to see that

We haven't seen what this looks like, what was shown in the video was just the basic software, they said to see it in it's full potential they would need to send it to proper game devs who can do it justice.

That's if the whole thing isn't a load of bull that is.

They must be skimping somewhere

Unless the atoms are just on the surface or something. i.e. its just a layer

I sure hope this is real, though i don't see how it's possible on current levels of hardware? Polygons are used for a reason.

Without going into to much detail, It's garbage, The hole point of polygons is to cut down on the amount of data needed to generate 3d objects, Atoms are single pixels, Thus making per Frame 1000's of times more complicated, DX11 is an engine that multiplies the polygon count via tessilation, It's hardware based tech, You don't see AMD an Nvidia with this so called tech, And you can't do this with software alone, I call it out as BS, Not to mention trying to animate anything like this, You would have to tell every single Atom what todo and when todo it instead of wireframe ploygon models, Sure you could setup clusters to a wireframe but that would make your games take years to make a single detailed model, And watch the CPU grind to a halt trying to deal with the billions of operations, And don't get me started on AI.

Nat.

hmmmm..

i can see this as an evoloution into rendering objects.. and getting detail to be so lifelike we would struggle to tell the dirrerence between CGI and real life...

Right now i agree is not feesable to bring it to a game platform. but its pushing the boundries of tech

go back 20 years.. if i rocked up to a board room and said "guys im gonna make a RAM stick with 2gb of memory" for the public to use i would be declared mental.

i would give this tech 5-7 years of development and then see...
