unidentified network

i just reinstalled the OS and cant get my network card to connect i have a good line coming in but it says it can't identify the network. any help would be great.

i have a gateway gt5628 (my friends) vista ultimate 64

If it's a local area connection (ethernet), right click, properties, select internet protocol(TCP/IP) if its XP, internet protocol IPV4 if its vista. Click the properties button and assign an IP and default gateway (routers IP). Should sort it out
 
First off you could try;

Cmd> ipconfig > all.

here it should be giving you your ip, default gateway ect. If you default gateway and ip there then you should be along the right lines.

If they're not go into your routers config, via web interface; possibly - 192,168.1.1 [Default gateway]

Then check all your setting - use DHCP, assign auto.

Have a look round - Have you installed all the drivers or your computer? This is a common problem.
