Thoughts on my new PC

Hey guys

Been thinking about my new rig for 2012.

I use my PC mainly for gaming and photoshop with a bit of video editing thrown in.

This will be the 5th pc i've built and first time water cooling and as such i've decided to only do a CPU loop.

When it comes to building a new rig the aesthetics take priority, then noise and finaly performance (I still like a high end rig though^^)

The colour Scheme I have gone for is White and Black with hints of Red

Case: NZXT Switch 810 White

Motherboard: Asrock Extreme4

CPU: Intel 3930k

RAM: Mushkin Blackline 2133 16Gb (4x4Gb)

GPU: Asus Direct CUII Top 7950 Tripple Slot

PSU: Corsair Gold AX 850 psu or Seasonic P1000W (Really like the look of this PSU)

SSD: OCZ Vertex 3 60Gb Boot Drive

HDD: Western Digital Green 2TB

Bitfenix Red 24pin Alchemy Cable

Bitfenix Red 6pin Alchemy Cable

Apogee HD White CPU Block

Phobya G-Changer V1.2 360mm Triple Radiator : G-Changer 360 V1.2

Phobya Balancer 150 Reservoir Black Nickel

Laing D5 (MCP655) Vario 12V Pump for 1/2" ID Tube

Bitspower 1/4" Thread Compression Fitting Black

Mayhems X1 Premix Fluid for Water Cooling 1 Litre : BLOOD Red / UV Red

Primochill PrimoFlex Pro LRT 1/2" ID - 3/4" OD (13-19mm) Tubing : White

NZXT 120MM 9 Blade Rifle Bearing Fan 47CFM FN-120RB x3

I'm mostly concerned about the water cooling parts as this is a first time for me, so any advice will be greatly appreciated

Thanks in advance

I would change the mobo for the Gigabyte X79-UD3.SSD Corsair Force GT or just the Force3.

If you are sure you only want to wc the cpu,Xspc have some good and silent wc-kits,with all parts needed, only need to buy wc-coolant.

first off look at the OCZ ssd as it pertains to ur mobo. Alot of folks having issues with them due to the controller on the ssd not liking the Intel one.

secondly dont forget a 8pin mobo in red (unless ur using the NZXT one)

thirdly why use a Blood Red coolant if your using white tubing??

Fourthly look at something besides primochill tubing they seem to be the worst when it comes to plasticizing.

Fifthly get more than 1ltr of fluid (should take a tad over 1 ltr) but having more on hand is better than not having enough will save you from slapping your head in disgust when you dont have enough.

ok where am I oh yeah sixthly the rest looks good

Thanks for the speedy and informative response guys.

@Kilobravo

I did have a look at the all in one xspc water cooling sets, but I just didn't like the look of the cpu block nor the clear tubing, and I wanted compression fittings, so I decided to just go with a custom loop.

Also thanks for the advice on the SSD

@S_I_N

Thanks for the advice on the SSD I will change that then. I might get a Corsair Force Series GT, and now that I think of it I remember seeing another SSD that was red (somthing wildfire?) Any good?

Thanks for reminding about the red CPU 8pin cable

The reason for the red coolant is soley for the resovoir, as I am uncertain where I am placing the res in the rig I didnt want to have clear or white (or any other random colour) coolant. Just adding another red element to the rig really. I may end up having to put the res somewhere where it wont be visable through the window in which case it wouldnt really matter about the colour of the coolant.

I will look into different tubing. Any suggestions?

Thanks for letting me know to get more than one litre of fluid

wildfire I think its Patriot yeah they make good drives as well. Tubing since ya want white i have no clue I was gonna say Clearflex and see the red fluid is what i would do.

and no sweat overall its what we do here on OC3D we gots each others back

The red coolant may show through and make your tubing look pink. I'm not 100% certain on this though.

OCZ ssds are good for value. Patriots are better. Corsair has some ssds in red that might go with your theme. Kingston is good too, but I don't think they have them in black or red.

Most of us. I'm here to destroy everyone's dreams.

I would have gone for the Crucial RealSSD M4 64GB over the OCZ Vertex 3 60GB, The M4 is faster and more reliable.

But for the best Performance atm it has to be the Intel 520series 120GB

Thanks for the information on the ssd's.

Good point about the red coolant showing as pink through the white tubing (I'd rather not take the chance) So I think I will get red tubing instead.

After thinking about this build i've decided to ditch the water cooling.

This is the new list:

NZXT Switch 810 White

ASUS RAMPAGE IV FORMULA x79

Intel 3930k

16GB Mushkin Redline Ridgeback 1866

Asus Direct CUII Top 7950

Corsair Gold AX 850 psu

Corsair Force Series GT 60GB Boot drive

Western Digital Green 2TB

Corsair H100

Noctua FP-P12 Fans x2 to use with the H100

Bitfenix Red 24pin Alchemy Cable

Bitfenix Red 6pin Alchemy Cable x2

Bitfenix Red 8pin Alchemy Cable

Although I'm certain 850w PSU will be anough for this, should I stretch to 1000w to be on the safe side?

You would be safe even with a 750W PSU with that config, mabye even a 650W PSU =)

650 only if ya want the psu running at 90% 24/7 (means fans spinning noisily) 750 minimum 850 will give ya hesge room for crossfire if ya want later.

The powerdraw is quite heavy when you oc the 3930k,i have 150w stock settings on the hole system and up to 500w at 4.9ghz.I wouldnt go below 750w.Get the Corsair ax850 or something equal. The H100 is almost 10c hotter than with a proper wc setup.
