The Duke

OK so I've ordered all the bits for The Duke's build and should be arriving hopefully tomorrow or sometime in the week, minus the bits that are on backorder. Totally stoked as I haven't upgraded in ages and this will be a complete new build woop :D

Anyway, the spec...

CPU: AMD 64 X2 6400+ Black Edition (stock 3.2GHz)

MOBO: MSI K9A2 Platinum AM2+ 790FX

RAM: 4Gb OCZ Reaper (4x1024) PC2-8500

PSU: Tagan EasyCon 530W Modular

GPU: XFX 8800GT XXX 512Mb

HDD: 2x 36Gb 10krpm Raptors (RAID0), 2x 300Gb Seagate (RAID0)

CASE: Thermaltake Armor Black

LCS: Laing DDC-1T Pro, EK-Supreme CPU, XSPC R120-D, XSPC Res, EK-FC88GT, 1/2" UV Blue Tubing

The bits on backorder are the 8800 and the water blocks which kinda puts a downer on things as I can't proceed with the build until they arrive.

I have a long term plan for the build also which is; eventually replace the 6400+ with a Phenom X4 when the high-end stuff comes out, maybe get another 8800GT and run them in SLI (which will require another water block) and in the shorter term get an X-Fi card instead of using the 5.1 onboard sound chip.

I will post up pics as soon as I start building :)

Nice one mate, it's always fun buying new gear :) Are you just going to run the Laing DDC Pro with the stock top or get an alternative top? (OCLabs or XSPC Plexi recommended). If you are looking to run an SLI setup in the future you may find that your flow will hurt as well as your pump head with your stock Laing DDC Pro.

Furthermore; if you're looking at an X-FI card then look at getting one of these

That X-Fi looks the tats! If there isn't better out when I get round to buying it will probably be that one. As for the pump, I've gone for the OCLabs XP UV Blue top :)

Yeah I was really tempted by that myself, creative hardware and creative software with Dolby Digital Live :D The only trouble is I have an X-Fi Fatal1ty Elite Already :S

Some bits arrived today after all :D

The case should be arriving later on today (according to ParcelFarce) and the rest hasn't been shipped yet.

Looking nice bud...

Keep the pics flowing....I need to feed my habit for viewing freshly delivered kit in it's packaging as my Mrs has put her foot down LOL.

:wavey:

Big delivery for me today :D:D:D :cool::cool:

Got pretty much everything now except the CPU water block and the 8800GT, without which I can't really build anything together just yet so I'm waiting until it all comes before I get started.

heres the pics anyway: :p

Looks nice dude.

The Armour is a decent case. One of thermaltake's successes, all of which you can count on your hands...

OK today apart from stressing with uni work I've been measuring up the LCS system and have realised that I've massively underestimated the amount of hose I would need! Bought a meter, could probably do with one more.

Also my 8800GT arrived today and I've been busy fitting the water block to it

Threw together some of the LCS bits as well to get a feel for what it's gonna look like and where I'm gonna route the hose

I figure that the best order for the loop will be:

-> PUMP -> RAD -> GPU -> CPU -> RES ->

although I'm wary about putting the CPU and GPU next to each other...is this a good idea?

Gotta add 2 more Thermaltake 120mm fans (1 extra to the rad on the front side, and one on the back of the case)

Don't put your GPU before your CPU otherwise you're just transferring heat from the GPU to the CPU and the GPU is the hottest part of a PC. You're better off dual looping but on the hand of least expense theoretically you'd do better taking from your CPU>GPU.

OK this is all coming together now!

This arrived today...

so I've plumbed all my LCS bits together, filled it with a litre of FluidXP+ and now I'm gonna leave it overnight in case there are any leaks or problems.

Some quality gear going on there, and looking great also.

I`m looking forward to an OC3D member posting their AMD results in depth ;)
