I think the AMD/ATI merger is great, I think it will be awesome x 100. And most mergers don't go bad... Look at Seagate/Maxtor, now they've got the hottest new hard disk storage technology on the block only a few months after the merger.

Mergers usually = good.

thats DEFINITLY not good, several smaller companys has to fight each other to survive and that means better equipment for us users in the end.

one example is between amd and intel, they both do everything they can to build the fastest processor for the lowest price to attrach buyers.

same with ati and nvidia.

if there only was one big company then they could throw out a new generation gfx card every 2-3 years instead of once a year and have prices much higher than now.

Dude it doesn't really matter, lol. In the end it's two profit centers merged in to one both with their own niches which can then be shared and improved upon. Merger, takeover, all the same.

I think both companies could really benefit from this merger; but not just profit wise. Hopefully they'll get their heads together and produce some really awesome reliable gear
