Temps TOO DAMN HIGH

Hey guys, I just oc'ed my 3770k to 4.8 at 1.224V, but when I turn on prime95, the temps I get are: 74 83 79 76 (Maximum) on RealTemp. Quite high for 1.224V I think.

Here's some info about my pc:
- My waterloop is a d5 pump (running at 4700/4800 rpms) with rx360 (using the xspc fans that came with the kit @12V), cooling my CPU and GPU (670). I'm using Noctua NT-H1 TIM.
- I'm using a Asus P8Z77-v premium with Corsair Dominator (2133MHz, 8gb)

What can I do to solve this?

hmm I see, but even with 4.4 and 1.1V, at 100% load, the #2 core (which is the hottest) would hit 70. Can we still blame Ivy ?
 
reduce the volts/ o/c

4.6 on ivy is ~ 4.8ish on sandy

If you have balls of steel you can de-lid the cpu with a razor blade and replace intels cheap crap tim with a good tim or even better that coolabratory liquid metal pro doodads. (warning - voids warranty and you may destroy cpu) ;D

edit, if temps are that high at 1.1 you should check you have adequate flow (no trapped air in rads?) and re-mount the cpu block

Wow, those are some high temps. I would check to see that everything is functioning properly. My 3570K is sitting in the high 50'2 low 60's at 100%, 4.6GHz 1.31 Volts cooled by an EX240. I would not think that the 3770K is that much hotter then a 3570K.
 
hahahaha, awesome post NRG! Its true the temps are quite high under full load, but with firefox (I have a huge amount of tabs, dunno why tbh) and playing bf3, I'm using around 40% (+/-) of the CPU and it stays still at low 50's. Tho I'm gonna try to improve this somehow. Thanks for the fast replies guys!
 
you may wanna look into Master & Puppet's guide on the overclock to chase a
demon. yes ivey is a hot-headed processor and voltage (core and LLC) tend to
make some serious heat. usually there is a line of voltage to keep a decent clock
with minimal heat output.

what kinda temps were you getting on air? i keep seeing there maybe an underlying
issue...

Try re-sitting the block on the CPU. 1.224v is very low for an Ivy Bridge CPU at 4.8GHz, is it stable? Also, try re-applying the thermal paste using the 'pea' methods and not spreading it before mounting the block.

You can also try other temperature monitors and see if they present different temperatures.

My 3930k idles at around 50C and loads of 70-80C even under water due to my two GTX480's being in the same loop.
 
yeah, it is stable. Soon I will be adding another graphic card (and another radiator), probably then I will get it on a lower voltage and clock, until then I think I will keep it at 4.8. Those temps in the first post were using prime95 and I never use the CPU at 100%, so no worries for now ^^
 
The CPU is at fault.....

Ignore deano's comment about LLC, thats so wrong I should remove his moderator badge. He deffo needs to swot up on what load line calibration actually does :p
 
IB has a heat spot issue,small die and stacked 3D transistors being the main culprits.
Its not so much it gets hot,rather all the heat is in a tighter spot and is harder to remove.
At least thats my understanding of it.
