CoolIT vs Asetek / Corsair H110i GT vs GTX

Hi!

I bought a Kraken X60 a few years back and that one lasted for about 2 years when the pump started to rattle a LOT and CPU got hot while the cooling liquid didn't seem to warm up all that much at all.
For about a year now I have used a Kraken X61. According to NZXT CAM pump is running fine but the CPU temps are up yet again, the pump's squirting sometimes and maybe a little louder at 100% than a year ago. Pump's running at manual 50%-100% in NZXT CAM, UEFI fan control for the pump is off, fans running off fan controller. I tried reseating the CPU / cooler, using Noctua NT-H1, but doesn't seem to help.
I have now downclocked the CPU from 4.8/4.6cache @ 1.3/1.29V (which used to be stable) to stock/auto with memory still at 2400MHz, auto is ~1.24V . Still, core 2 of my 4790K goes to 100C HOT under realtemp almost immediately, throttling, when running AIDA 64 stability test, same with OCCT.

Running AIDA 64 'Stress FPU' right now, went to full stock in UEFI with memory at 1600MHz, both ASUS AiSuite and AIDA 64 Sensors show around 1.08V for cpu, while core 2 of my CPU is running at 88C, lowest core 4 at 79C, Kraken X61 at 100% / 3600-3720 rpm pump speed, and 50% fans (more does not make any difference). Room temp 20.1C and Kraken X61 liquid temp does not go beyond 35C after 20min while CPU runs at 88-79C.
I think the pump is half-done, any comments welcome :)

TL;DR

Both X60/X61 have Asetek pumps (afaik). I feel Asetek pumps don't last long from my (little) experience ?! Plenty of issues out there with the Kraken X61 as well.

I am looking to buy a Corsair H110i now, but no idea whether I should get the 'original' H110i GT (CoolIT) or the H110i GTX (Asetek). Any opinions on CoolIT vs Asetek pumps, the H110i GT/GTX, longevity?

Go the CoolIT one or have a look at the Fractal Design S24 or S36 IMO the S24 & S36 are a far better AIO than the ones your looking at the only issue with the FD ones are only 240 & 360mm.

The problem with Asetek atm they just want to sue everyone.
 
My H100 (original) is a CoolIT and zero issues with longevity. It's now four years old and runs pretty much 24/7.

Can't speak for Asetek.
 
Where is the Laing option?

CoolIT is the lesser of two evils, they built the market with the H100 and H100i both of which were excellent in their day. Asetek seem to care more about suing those who created the huge market they have a mediocre share in rather than being competitive by developing decent products, I had three consecutive new H105's that were awful. By contrast the Alphacool OEM Kelvin is refreshingly good at it's price point and the option of a 360 is great.

Either way it does sound like your pushing your chip and cooler uncomfortably hard for extended use, silicon does degrade over time as do pumps with high coolant temps. Get a CoolIT and go a little easier on it or look at the 360 Predator/Kelvin.

I had a tendency towards the GT / CoolIT as 280mm unit, and I don't really dig the Apple-ish behaviour of Asetek suing everyone either - but not to the point of influencing my decision at this point - I'm just trying to avoid any worry about my cooler for a while. Asetek's pumps didn't seem to work for me so far with X60 and X61.
The X61 is actually from NZXT as swap for the X60 - a process I would not want to go through again, took a lot of effort and time to deal with support.

I know the chip's been pushed a bit, but degraded or not, I'm fairly confident it's the pump/cooler and not that much the chip, but no way to test it without another cooler. Just the liquid not getting warm while stress testing seems quite odd. I think 1.3v for Haswell is not too overkill, I have all the powersavings on, most of the time it ran adaptive, not using much AVX. While I agree that generally there will be degrading, from what I have (not) done to the chip, to now get 88 C at stock running fpu stress test at 1.08V is wrong imho :o

I will have a look at other coolers like Fractal and maybe the EK Predator, but I'd like to stick to 280mm if possible. Thanks for your suggestions :) Also, Laing, is that not only for custom loops or is there an AIO?

What case are you using if your case can have a 360mm rad i would got a 360mm rad.
 
Corsair Air 540 - so 360 possible in the front, a thin one as the gpu is quite long.

I have 3x140mm in the front, drilled some holes since I wanted a bit more neutral/positive pressure from the standard negative pressure, now it's 3-in, 3-out. Idk, I think I prefer 280mm since it's the easiest option, probably going for the H110i GT.

At the end of the day, the cooling was fine with the Kraken X61 until recently, started to do some rending and was surprised how the temps spiked, I had changed adaptive to manual to avoid any auto-volting, but then nothing seemed to help, as described above.

I will post back when I decided and have the new cooler, some time fairly soon I guess :) Thanks for your answers guys
