Swiftech H220

Hello there,

I´m a noob regarding WC So I ask the help of the experts...
I´ve been thinking about doing it but without much hassle. What do you guys think about the Swiftech H220?
Reviews say it´s very good and that its possible to upgrade it...could I possible WC my 2x GTX570´s with it? If so, what you I need to buy?

Thanks!

As TTL says, read the review.

But to answer your question, no. The 220 isnt as good as the hype, a H100i is better, the ability of the 220 to 'add' to it its loop is a bit pontless.

If you want to cool a cpu and 2 gpu's go custom, if you want to just cool a cpu, go for a H100i

I read a couple of reviews but not this one. But thank you for your non aggressive answer. Can you help me build a custom kit, recommending the parts, please?

Im not really the guy to ask about water cooling. i sort of make it up as i go along, pay no attention to the rule book and use what i have to hand. Im building my first custom loop myself.

If you want to post your budget and we can see what we can come up with. Some of the guys on here are brilliant with water cooling, so maybe start a new thread

Thank you :-)
I want to reduce overall noise, my gpu's make a lot of noise when gaming because they get very hot. I am willing to spend 300 euros. Do you think it's possible?
My setup is :

Asus P8Z68-V Pro;
i5 2500k@4.3ghz;
2x GTX 570 inno3d hawk in SLI;
8GB DDR3 1600Mhz;
Asus Xonar Dx;
Vertex 3 120Gb SSD + 1TB HDD;
Corsair Tx750w;
CoolerMaster Storm Scout case; scynthe Mine rev. B cpu cooler.
Benq W700 720p 3D Vision Projector, 88´´ Screen, Sony 5.1 Home Cinema

300 euro's i doubt that will be enough for just 2 gpus considering the blocks cost 80 euro's a pop usually, and then you would need all the rest of it.

Looking at this picture of your case,

http://www.dvhardware.net/news/cooler_master_storm_scout_2.jpg

There isnt really much room for a nice thick radiator unless you are willing to mod your case and put a nice radiator where the hard drive rack and optical bays are now. Since you want a silent solution a thick radiator and some decent fans are about the only solution to keep both the noise and temperatures down. I would say your options are rather limited, but not impossible.

a couple of things will make it really a nightmare to use simple cooling solutions.
the first is the case. the scout (HAF912 breed) has limited mounting areas
internal for radiators. second, is your GPU single fan or dual fan cooler? the single
fan solution has a reference designed PCB so many 570/580 waterblocks will fit perfectly.
if it is the dual fan, you'll need to research for full-block coverage. if you are
considering the universal mounted blocks, i'd pass on the whole idea with these
kinda push-back issues. to keep it in budget, keep is managable and still look the
part.. its gunna need more budget and imagination.

You guys are right, I guess my GPU´s are not stock PCB, check this image:

This means everything gets more complicated. One thing I could do is to upgrade to a single card but my cards performance equals a gtx590 which equals a Gtx680 so for me to have a proper upgrade would mean I would have to buy a gtx690, which costs 950€! Even if I manage to sell my 2 cards for 400€ I would still need to spend an extra 550€, when my performance is still ok (except for Crysis 3 which I thing has inflated results by Crytek).
Regarding the Case I really thought it had room for a decent radiator...

:(

You could always have the rad external if you don't mind that and look,around for some bit second hand.
I see no issue with picking up second had radiators, compression or barb joints and pump. The cpu/gpu blocks you probably want to get new because you want to guarantee any seals are ok. That being said if you can find some stuff that you think looks in good condition, pick up some sysclean, run that through it and give it a go.

I got a decent rad, rad shroud, mount and 3 gentle typhoons for £50 delivered.

It can be done for your budget, just might take a bit longer to pick up the parts

Ah, ok, thanks. :) Seems like a good price... but can you please tell me the model name of those parts ur selling? And which other parts would I need in your opinion? This way I can begin checking prices.

Edit: And is WC really much more quieter?

Cheers

I'm not selling anything, I'm just saying that parts can be had for good prices if you are willing to wait and shop around.

You need
Rad
Fans
Resevoir
Cpu block
Gpu blocks
Joints, compression or barbs
Tubing
Pump
Sme sort of coolant.

Is watercooling much quieter? That all depends on what you have now, but generally, yes it can be.

Sorry, I misunderstood you, you said got and not have. ;-) The problem is I don't know which parts will fit with each other. Regarding noise my cpu cooler is pretty quiet but my gpu fans tend to go up to 80 percent speed when gaming, especially one of them because it doesn't have enough space between the cards. I would really like to WC my pc and have a really quiet pc but I am afraid of buying stuff that dosent work. The mounting dosent scare me, I would learn it like everyone does.

Sorry thats my poor essex english, but 'got', 'have got', and 'have' are the same thing.

pick a hose size G1/4" for example, make sure that all compression filltings or barbs are the same and anything you buy can take 1/4" fitting or that there is an adaptor to make it take 1/4".

as far as i am aware, thats it. again you would have to check with someone else but ithink your going to need a 360 or a nice thick 240 rad to keep that lot cool. PLus with 2 gpu's and a cpu your drobably better off getting a decent pump rather than a cheaper one.

as said by Airdeano, go on specialteck, or watercoolinguk and try and build yourself a water cooling kit, then post a screen shot here.

Not quite right, G1/4 is the size of the thread where you screw the fitting in, not the hose size, which can be 1/2 or 3/8 or many more. When going for compression fittings the Outer diameter needs to fit the compression fitting listed OD size, if you go with barbs you dont have to pay attention to that, but i would recommend some clips to go over the hose and then tighten them on the barb. there are so many options so do some research into what you really like and go from there.

Thanks once more for your input.
It´s really hard to do the research because there actually is a lot of options, it´s a bit uncouraging... I did the "cooling configuration" and submited my exact board and gpu´s, lets see what they say.

Don't listen to those who still believe the world is flat!

You CAN use the H220 for the purpose you asked about! I bought one and am adding an additional radiator with reservoir with 2 fans and adding two fans for a push/pull to the H220. Plenty of pump power to handle a pair of gpus.

Good to hear that... When you have everything set please let us know how it behaves :)
