Started thinking about WC again, quick question!

I asked before but just to make absolutely sure i dont bugger it up.

If you look at this (not mine) But see the Thermal Paste On The little Chips around the main Chip in the middle, This wont cause any problems at all right? its not going to fry if there's paste on them?

M&P I apologize if I came off snooty.

Dude, no need to appologise! I came here to help where I could, but mostly I came here to learn and I actually have a lot of respect for what you say. As far as this thread goes I'm planning an experiment over easter and I've asked for some advice from Koolance too. Totally over the top I know but heck, might as well get it right. I will let everyone know the results of both when they arrive.

I was just laughing my arse off when i read alot of the posts ...Had a very ruff day with work ( got alot worse in the afternoon after I posted that).

Ha, I glad you got a laugh out of it. Bookmark this thread so you can cheer yourself up next time!

Do you know what paste it is?

Whatever paste comes stock on the XFX cards. Wether its conductive or not i dont know, and no idea if it will even cause a problem with the chips, its near impossible to get it all off anyway

The fact its there already presumes to me that its been there since i got the card and the card works perfect

Maybe but I wouldn't dare say either way. Have you got an electical test kit? I'd see if it conducts just in case.

The xspc K2 paste i replaced it with doesnt seem conductive either so thats good

Bonus, well most of them aren't these days but some conductive ones are still produced. I think they have slightly better thermal properties because of the metal suspensions but it is also risky!

first let me say SeiB - your switch 810 with your tinymobo looks epic

now back on topic, about the 'little chips around the main chip' isn't there usually thermal pads, not thermal paste??? maybe get some of those?

no no lol i dont mean the chips where there is thermal pads, The big chip in the Centre, has tiny chips around it like 1x1mm in size (the part with thermal paste on it) thats the chips im on about, inside the big shiny square in the middle.

looks like someone got sloppy with applying paste on it those dont normally contact the heatsink so no worries there if possible best not to get any on it. as long as you use non conductive paste any overflow to them will not hurt anything.

Yea it was the Stock paste, There was a fair ol chunk on it, i cleaned up what i could and applied a Rice grain sort of size ammount

Ive gone 6 days now with no PC >.< Specialtech screwed up an order and now Fedex just told me they cant make the delivery today. Talk about a ball ache

Ouch :/

When you get it all together would you mind posting your gpu OC results? I'd be interested to see how well the black 7970 does.

Will do Master, Its OC'd as Stock but il read up on GPU OC'ing and see what i can do.

Leak testing it all at the moment, I will make a project thread or something later on.

Pump isnt Fixed down yet so its sitting slightly squint if you could tell.

Ordered an SSD too so will be re-installng windows ect before i do anything.

I do plan to, Just not Something ive done before, Ive only really been into PC's for 7-8months now so still learning

that dye look amazing, also is the pump top like a little res? just asking cuz i thought that the pump intake should be fed directly from the res, but your res is under the pump level, (i didn't worry about it since my pump res is one unit)

Its a pump top, it still directs the flow in the same way it just looks alot nicer than having a black molded plastic inlet/outlet. It also allows the use of your own barbs and gives 2 inlet and 2 outlet options.

The res is attached to the intake so the pump is sucking fluid from the Rez up the pipe and pushing out into the radiator and it works fine, as long as the pump always has fluid it will always pump round regardless if the res is above or below it.

The fluid is Mayhems Aurora Nebula Blue if you didnt know
