Actually MSI have missed a trick. their caps are still blue and silver, mine are black
Wow I didn't even notice that until you said that!
How are you enjoying the build? Are you still using it as a daily driver?
also, how are you finding the nzxt led kit? I like it a lot, i have one, but mine flickers quite a lot. I've heard others reporting the same thing.

There's lots of little bits in that build that don't immediately jump out at you. no-one has actually noticed the caps, or that the OC genie buttons have also had their colour changed. a few others also IIRK.
Not actually started using it as a daily driver yet as been busy benching with it. will soon be putting up a full system review and apologies it has taken me so long. Might also be making a few upgrades. I'm still stunned by it every time I turn it on, and often forget to turn it off as it's so quiet
Not had a problem with the NZXT kit. I think they're one of the best on the market. Flickering is a bit odd, are you sure you're giving it 12volts through the yellow on the molex and not 5v through the red???? Other than that, perhaps a bad earth as a resut of a tight corner puling some of the copper strands.

Not sure about the NZXT kit, but others have reported flickering as well--My guess is the controller panel that does the dimming is check quality (it would have to be I suspect as the entire kit is only $15) It is plugged directly into the power supply with the molex that comes with it so I don't know. I think I'm going to give them one more try and grab another kit, as they still are my favorite option so far. I much prefer the long braided cable that you can route around vs the incredibly bright bitfenix strips and other types of strips.
Sometimes it's hard to notice the little things right away, especially if you don't have anything to compare it to, but I still am a bit advocate of doing a really nice job with it and making those little changes here and there. Even if people don't notice, you still feel good about it, you know?

I gave up after my 4th set of NZXT leds
Ive never really been a big fan of LEDs tbh, I actually prefer a more subtle, subdued look. All of my builds in the past have has some LEDs at some point, but I have always ended up running with no LEDs at all for the long term. Same goes for my current setup--I played around with a few different kits of LEDs but no I just have nothing at all, which is what I prefer. The other day I redid all my cables and removed all the LED related crap plus some other stuff and did a really proper cable management job. The less cables the better imo! The thing that attracted me to the NZXT kit initially was the on/off switch, but even when I did have it in my case I had it off 99% anyway, so I figured I might as well just take all the excess out. It is a same that the kit is such spotty quality though because otherwise it's the nicest LED kit Ive seen.

Wow! Just read through this thread. Well done G-Dubs! This rig is amazing and is an Inspiration to me!

Your excellent cable management work here inspired me to do a proper job around the back of the motherboard tray on my system
Nice wiring job there my friend. Always annoys me that the 12pin CPU is never long enough to take around the putside edge and has to go diagonal.
Glad you like it. I'm currently overclocking and benching it with both the 2500K and the 2700K (hope to get a solid 5GHz) Been a while since it was completed so a shame I haven't been able to bring you guys the numbers before now.

thanks! -- I wasn't totally happy with that job, so I went back at it again today. this is what I ended up with:
In addition to doing cables I also removed some of the bright yellow zip ties I previously used inside the case to give it a darker overall look inside my own case. I like it better this way

Nice! I recently benchmarked our 3930K at 5ghz -- definitely a fun chip to play around with.

Yes I definitely love doing a good job with the cables. There's always something you can do a bit better, more direct route, combining more things together to make a single neater cable bundle, etc,etc. It's addicting for sure!
I put my 8 pin through the motherboard cutout and then zipped it to that anchor part way down, so it's more clean looking on the motherboard side, and it with straight at least part of the way down. I replaced 2 1tb drives with a single 2tb and replaced the 4 drive SATA power with a 2 drive and zipped it together with the SATA cables and made a more straight route with them. I also did a bunch of other little things like sorting out the power cables coming out of the PSU so they were more neat and making the bundle of cables along the main set of anchors into one instead of having it break off and go on an angle. Plus of a bunch of other little things including replacing all the white zip ties with black ones. I actually came near the end of my supply of black zip ties and had to dig into the little bag of zip ties that corsair bundles with the PSU's.
