Speed issues.

hello all, new member here but been following forums and youtube for years now.

just rebuilt my pc and ive got an interesting issue now that i cant seem to sort out.

my motherboard has onboard gigabit ethernet which if used on its own works perfectly at 1gbit to my western digital my net n750 router running openwrt.

but i also have a second pci based gigabit card in the system aswell (so in theory 2gbit of network connection) and again if just this card is used it connects up at 1gbit perfectly.

but and here comes the problem, if i connect cables to both cards one will connect at 1gbps and one will connect at 100mbps even if i go into both cards settings and force them to 1gbps full duplex. been messing with this for a bit now and im stumped so thought id ask to see if anyone else could come up with ideas,

basic spec of pc otherwise is :

biostar ta790gxb a2+
athlon X2 4600+
4gb ram
radeon hd 6450
win 7 ultimate x64

I think this will only work if you can enable "link aggregation" on your motherboard or connecting hardware, such as router, switch etc. I have this enabled between two Cisco managed switches (upstairs and downstairs) and works very well.

It could be a limitation of the motherboard though, worth checking.

im not really wanting a full 2gbit link just 2x1gbit as i will be using 2 diff routers but even connecting to 2 different ones one always defaults back to 100mb

Ah right. Tried the network card in a different PCI slot if possible?

Might be worth an email to the support of your motherboard manufacturer.

I wouldn't recommend doing that. What you will notice happen is your PING in most cases will skyrocket and can sometimes double. Along with that you will get a more unstable response so your PING will fluctuate heavily as well as download and upload speed. The better option would be to use one router and have one NIC upload and the other NIC download, this could lower PING and give you a nice reliable connection.

Just my 2 cents.
