Setup:

Asus P5B DH

4MB Conroe, up to 3600MHz (for now)

2GB TX OPB/K404 Edition D9GMH

3x Samsung Spinpoint HDDs, RAID0

So....the card..



CPU watercooled for now.

Card will be tested at stock, then depending on stock cooler temps, OC`d with stock cooler. Voltmods will be saved for the chiller.

Also hoping to get something else in the running, if things come together from a few other ppl

EDIT 2B: Have a fan placed so blow air over the back of the card...drops idle by 3 degrees so far. Back of the card gets REALLY hot. In a normal case, this would do the chipset no favours at all.

New drivers are a pain..temp monitors have be accessed through ntune...which isnt part of the driver, has to be installed separately.

Basic overclocking tools are there for core and RAM, no separate shader clock. Riva 15.7 doesnt work, though it looks like nibitor DOES.

In time to come, if the latest Riva still isnt out i`ll have a play and see if theres a benefit to messing with deltas, or dropping the default shader clocks...from what i`ve read the core and shader clocks scale together, so might be able to hit the max shader clock with a higher core clock. I can already tell it`ll take a while to find the sweet spot!

Hell no! LOL Fattys handiwork, tho I did a minute amount of electrical rewiring to make it easier to hook up...

Sensible chiller... R134, Electrolux GD40AA compressor. Holds 150W at around 17 degrees (water temp) and has a programmable thermostat to avoid condensation if desired.

I gotta say now....

This is the stupidest forum to say it BUT....

if you dont overclock, dont buy an 8800. The CPU bottlenecking is shaping up to be crazy. I`ll post some very early numbers by the end of the night, tho dont get too excited....I tested all at stock. CPU, RAM, GPU everything..stock

@Andi...I saw that somewhere.... a 42 goes somewhere or summat? i`ll dig now as well

I also got some results from overclocking the CPU...i`ll splice the FPS boxes together and show just what effect some CPU power has on the scores tomorrow

This is crazy...absolutely crazy..i`ve NEVER seen anything scale so quickly with GPU MHz. This thing LOVES each and every last MHz it gets. Not saving any score screenies yet....

I`m getting so much fun out of this card I dont want it to end, but i`m seriously thinking about just going for the current HWBot no.1 spots, call it cocky but if it keeps scaling like this I wont even need water! Hell I still have 400MHz in reserve on the CPU

OK... a teaser 513/792 (default clocks!) to 564/850 added just over 1K to my 3D05 score. Might only be 1K, but to see unexpected jumps like that is a pretty good feeling!
