Skype makes games sound weird :(

Dicehunter

Resident Newb
Was chatting to a friend over Skype and then I entered a game and apparently my voice went all weird and robotic, Butt loads of static.

Tried Steam chat, Facebook/Skype chat and the same outcome.

Anyone had this problem before ?

i had some interference issue with my gtx 570 and some asus sound card a while ago. it's only when you start a game as then there's load on the GPU and one thing leads to another
i solved it by sending my sound card back
not really helping you here but this might be the right way to dig deeper

//edit
well, as you just got a new GPU... there might be your problem
some interference thing probably

You got another place to plug it in?

Haven't used skype for game talk in ages. Mumble/Ts is much better.

you using onboard or usb input?

have you set your mic as the dedicated recording device in audio input

Is your input set to have the 'allow devices to take exclusive control of' (I can't remember the exact wording but that option either way) enabled (it should be enabled)

What's your mic input settings on in terms of 8bit 16bit 24bit and the KHz setting, eg 24,48,96 etc ?

Mono or stereo input?

My old asus xonar DGX got interference hard from any sort of gpu load, even scrolling down web pages or playing YouTube videos made my mic sound go apeshit :/

Well I read through 10 pages of this exact problem on the ROG forums, A LOT of people all having the exact same problem, Fine if not in a game but as soon as anything starts up i.e game a loud humming sounds appears.

Of course Asus are blaming people instead of looking into it though which has ticked a lot of people off royally including myself as this only happens with the Phoebus and not with any of the Creative cards i.e Titanium fatal1ty Pro, Recon3D, Z and ZX.

I've since plugged the mic into the motherboard and the sound from my mic is crystal clear, Must be a design fault of the Phoebus as a lot of people are reporting this exact problem.
