So I have heard about these nifty devices called quick dis connects. what i was wondering was which are the best ones to get for 1/2 id 3/8 od tubing. There are plenty of different versions. Also where in a loop is the best place for these to be installed?

Thanks

If you are going to be using the quick disconects to drain the loop then i would say have them at the lowest point in the build. I dont know which brand is the best though, sorry

Hope this helped.

I have the Koolance quick disconnects and I'd say they are excellent. They leave barely a rain drop drip on either end when disconnected so tiny it stays on the ends from surface tension. You really lose almost no liquid at all.

Placement wise keep them low on the system so when it comes to drain you can help gravity do most of the work.

And remember you cannot open these Koolance ones yourself using your fingers so you will need to buy an extra end to plug in to one of the QD's after you unplug them from your loop to get the water out.

You would need a male fitting too yes. With Koolance they sell the Female and Male fittings separately as they come in a variety of different angles and connectors. Some have G1/4 threads on one side while some have a compression fitting to connect to tubing.

In that link you've selected a Compression Fitting to QDC Female. You'd need a QDC Male to use that. If you intend to have tubing on either side you'd need a Compression Fitting QDC Male to go with it. Before I said you should get a 2nd connector to drain with, but to be honest if your hose is long enough that a QDC makes sense then you could probably pull it to the side of the case and pull one of the QDC's off to drain and that would save you some money.
