sheroo's SB Build

Just a quick update on some progress made today:-

Got the CPU, Memory and Noctua backplate installed and in the case. Also added the braided cables for the motherboard power.

Its a good job that I installed the Noctua retention plate before I installed the motherboard... The hole in the chassis just doesn't line up with the motherboard.

Just a few observations for those of you that are thinking about the Phantom and an H70 or H50:-

On the early phantoms you could not install an H50/70 without it fouling the rear top 200mm fan. NZXT have obviously been listening to customer feedback and have now elongated the screw holes on the back of the case so that the rear 120mm fan can sit lower and an H50/70 can be fitted as well as retaining the top 200mm fan in the rear position.

Well its looking awsome mate so far!

its abit too red for me, but I can understand the appeal

BTW - That chair is amazing, had mine for an age it seems... no squeeks or rattles still after many hours a day for afew years!

I got a lil rug thing for my desk and chair or you may ruin the carpet underneath as a non computer realted suggestion.

Should be up and running soon!

When the room gets decorated I'm gonna put some laminate down, the carpet is junk. Good to know that the chair won't fall apart in a matter of weeks...

Don't you just hate it when you find a build thread and the person gets half way through and then just leaves you hanging...

So I'm going to try and finish this log off, I have just been having too much fun with my new rig. Just finished COD Black OPS, and all I can say on an eyefinity setup is WOW!

So just to finish the components I got a Blu-Ray reader and a nice new mouse...

This Lachesis mouse is brilliant. The scroll wheel on my old Copperhead is a bit temperamental and when playing a shooter it just doesn't cut it. Besides you can change the colours of the scroll wheel and Razer logo - I'm a sucker for that sort of stuff.

Rig looks awesome mate!

Have you gotten rid of those side 120's that come with the case?

You can get a few extra degrees off your temps without them.

So to run 3 monitors from my 6950 I bought an Active DisplayPort Adapter. Luckily the Sapphire Card comes with a mini DP to DP adapter.

So 6950 => miniDP => DP => Active DP => DVI => Monitor.

Bought 3 * 5 meter DVI cables from scan as well...

Yep I only have the 140mm at the front, 120mm in the rear and 2 * 200 in the roof. It's the quietest pc that I've built to date.

Did you seek out the Revision B3 P67 motherboards, or you just did without the dodgy SATA ports?

Red, blue, and white rig; mez want to see completed rig please.

The Cable mess at the back. It took me hours to do. The fully modular Corsair power supply is fantastic and whisper quiet. The GFX cables were a bit on the long side, but apart from that - brilliant.

This is the best case that I have had. Cable management is an absolute breeze. Normally when I finish a build putting the case side on is like sitting on an overpacked suite case. Most cases have the hooks top and bottom, so you need 3 hands to close it. This case has loads of room between the motherboard tray and the side panel. The case side hooks in at the front, and it just closed in 2 seconds flat.

Here the back side...

and the full frontal...

I'll take some shots of the desk after I tidy it up a bit.

I'm using the sata 6 ports for the ssd's and the marvell sata 6 ports for the Blu-ray.

Still waiting on Aria to sort out a replacement B3 board, I got this email from them back in Feb:-

"We are still waiting for full details of how the replacement boards will be handled, as soon as we have a procedure in place we will notify all affected customers.

The replacement boards are expected to be available sometime in April 2011

If you have any further issues please do not hesitate to contact us."

but dude putting an ssd in raid does not allow it to support TRIM and without that you will have to defrag the ssd regularly or its speed will go wayyyy down in a matter of few months just aheads up.

Ok so this machine had been on 24/7 now for a couple of months, and here is the ATTO benchmark...

Didn't even reboot and had loads of other stuff running in the background.

Here's the Windows Index Experience thingy. Not sure how much stock to hold in this?

I haven't overclocked anything yet, it just feels fast and snappy. Might do some tinkering when I get my replacement B3 board...

damnn and i thought my cable management was good

Its really down to the case. I've had Antec 900 & P180, Coolermaster CM690. This one was by far the easiest build, and those NZXT cables give a really clean look.

I was out in Liverpool for a few scoops last night...

Yeah i gots the same case, will be posting rig soon in the rig gallery, just waiting on some replacement parts from nzxt

really i dont think the motherboard does me any favours is a really awkard size inbetween a atx and matx so have to show alot of wires, and the front panel headers are ****** aswell in stupid places

First of all Congratulations its an awsome rig very well done =)

Second, just a quick question about the case, will it support the EVGA SR2?? Jus looks like a Eatx layout its massive!
