sheroo's SB Build

looking good already sheroo, I thought you might have went with Noctua fans, but it will be interesting to see what you think of the next ones. Can't believe you did not switch your PC on, must have been double swine flu coupled with man flu!

Yeah, I read the article and saw the vid today, that board does look like the dogs danglies. I've been totally out of it this week, as I've been ill, heck one day I never even turned the pc on - that's unheard of.

Cables. I got power 24 and 8 pin and 4 * 6 pin gfx in case I go xf in the future, front panel header, sata data extensions and 1 sata power for the odd that may be visible.

The GTX 580 has a 6 pin and 8 pin power, so you would need 1 of these and one of these for each card you have.

I'll be posting some more updates tomorrow, as I have had some more stuff arrive this week.

Thanks man i think im gonna get red/black bitfenix alchemy cables.

Feeling alot better now, I can feel myself becoming one with the PC again.

Those cables look quality, I love the colours, NZXT only do black and white.

Ok, so I had some stuff arrive from Scan:-

I can't believe how heavy this thing is. tbh I think its a bit fugly, but I went with function over form on this one. I hope that the H60 due out in March is a real performer, that way I can replace this and see the lovely heatsinks on my motherboard.

Also got some stuff from our friends at Aria:-

This stuff just feels like quality its 2*2GB 6-8-6-24 Blackline Ridgeback.

And finally the motherboard:-

I took the pragmatic approach with this one. The board looks lovely (maybe not quite as gorgeous as the top of the line Gigabyte), but for the money I think that the feature set is fantastic. I'm looking to acheive a stable overclock of about 4.5 and am fine with the speed step jumping back to 1.6 to save me some electricity when I'm only surfing. My current desktop used 250w idle

Still waiting for my chip to arrive...

And finally...

I got let down really badly by Ebuyer on this one. Couldn't wait any longer so I cancelled my order with them yesterday after waiting for a week and a half. Placed the order with Aria, and it was here less then 24 hours later, brilliant service. (now if they could just add free delivery on all orders greater than £50 or £100 I would shop there all the time)

I'm gonna start the build this weekend, but I need a new desk and chair. So I think I'll be off to that big blue Swedish furniture shop tomorrow...

Just a quick one... There's no point in having all of this lovely hardware if there is no software...

I haven't played any games in a long time. Can't wait to plug in my old Logitech G25...

Ok so I finally got things moving a bit. Took a trip to Ikea and got some big boxes...

A few cups of tea later and they magically turned into this:

So now I've got somewhere to start building. I normally end up on the floor, which I hate, so let building commence...

So because I don't get to build that often, I like to take my time and enjoy watching every component go in, I find that very satisfying. Today I installed top 200mm fan, front 140mm fan, SSD's and PSU.

So that's it for today, tomorrow Motherboard, CPU, Memory and some wiring...

Whoah i was actually correct with the red case. Looks damn sexy man.

Yeah couldn't really go for anything else once I'd seen the red. The black phantom looked lovely, and I really liked the white as well, but for once, I didn't want to be conservative. When I decorate the room, I'll probably paint it white and the red will really stand out - hopefully...

The desk is the Ikea Galant range the one I went for measures 160cm x 80cm. It comes in 3 parts.:-

These sandforce SSD's have built in garbage collection, so as long as you give them some time to recover they should be OK. But you're right, in that TRIM is not supported in RAID mode.

I know its just the time, I promised myself that for this build everything would be off the shelf.

Nice clean desk, that's what I'm aiming for, eventually...
