Setting up a network on xp pro and vista

i'm trying to setup a small network between my PC running xp pro and my laptop (vista). I've heard from many collegues at work that this isnt an easy task

really struggling with this. I have a wireless router and the pc is hardwired into it, whereas the laptop connects to the internet wirelessly.

I ran "network setup wizard" in xp pro and changed the workgroup name to "WORKGROUP" as I believe this is what its called in vista

It then asks me to create a network setup disk onto floppy so that i can install it on the laptop... fat lot of good that is as laptop doesnt have a floppy drive. So I copied that setup program to a pen drive and tried installing it onto the vista laptop. No good.

any suggestions please?

all i want to do is transfer files from my pc to my laptop.lol.

thanks

Its not exactly straight forward but have you selected shared folders dude?

Rightclick - properties - sharing tab

You might also need to get handing with shortcuts to these shared folders,

You can select a whole root drive if needed.
