hi new to the forums please be gentle

can you please spec me a server keeping costs down as much as possible got around £1000 to spend[exc harddrives] but like it lower if possible.

requirements as much storage as possible 24 bay hotswap bay rack if possible if not a large tower case,o/s will be windows 8 for the storage spaces for large pooling which will be mirrored[have my files backed up on a hp microserver n40l at the moment].
a couple of usb 3 and esata on the back of case for future expansion.
hdmi output for monitor.
low powerd for 24/7 running.

cheers

If it's used as a media server I'd recommend a NAS rather than a PC as it's easier to setup and maintain, it uses less power and since you wanted to run a desktop OS on the server, a NAS will also offer more server like functionality.
A 8 bay Synology device should be plenty, even for the most enormous media collection
You'd only need a "real" server if you really need 24 bays (remember that's 144TB raw storage, using the largest HDDs) or if you need functionality a NAS doesn't offer. In that case you probably wouldn't need to ask what to buy

thank you for your reply,i did look at the synology and qnap 8 bays which i think i will soon fill up when mirrored the storage,at the monent im running a microserver with 5 hardrives in and 3 icy dock 4 bay external boxes connected to the microserver which has a total of 17 hardrives,i really want to get a one case soloution using 4tb drives mirrored and wont get filled up to soon.
