A first generation ASIC Scrypt miner developed by UK based company Alpha Technology is due to ship its first models around Q2/3 this year.
The company claims that each board can mine at 5MH/s per 100W which makes it in order of 10 to 20 more efficient than GPU mining. The cost of one of these machines will be around £1600 inc VAT which is very cost effective too. They have also modelled a 25MH/s 500W version.
I was shortly going to be investing in a Maxwell based mining rig but to be honest if this stuff is around the corner (and it happened with SHA mining so not really a surprise) then I'm really not sure it is worth it in the medium term anymore.
Thoughts on the beginning of the end for scrypt based GPU mining?
