School Proxy

How can I bypass the proxy of my school? I cannot access my emails since I am in the UK and my email is provided with a server in China, namely 163.com; the email means a lot to me as it is the only way I can keep in touch with my friends from my old school.

A guy in my school told me that I can use SSH tunnelling but I have no idea what that is. Can anyone help me? Thank you.

Most schools use outside proxy companies to manage what people in the school are able to surf.

SSH tunnelling only works if you have full root access to the computer.

And recently the outside companies found a way of blocking any website that is not being accessed via it's own web server.

The only way is if you have computers that allow you to install programs.

And even then you might not be able to get by it if it's set up properly. On my network, the only computer that can get out through the firewall is the proxy server. It's also limited on what users can do through the proxy and because of Dansgaurdian, access is filtered.

OP, your best bet is a proxy site, unless of course your school does content filtering instead of DNS filtering. I'd be extremely surprised if you can get a tunnel out of their network, but I have seen worse at schools.

Sometimes you can bypass content filters by simply using https instead of http. If you can't reach your target site, try https to hidemyass.com like nothingspecial suggested.

Use HiJackThis and remove all proxy and IE entries, worked for college

. I never told anyone about this lol, I gave everyone my HTTP proxy which was slow and hardly worked (lol). I was browsing inside IE all sites like Facebook, YouTube and downloading on their nice network connection

. I then gained access to admin accounts, but that's another story.

I would have thought the staff in your school use a separate proxy with less restrictions.

When I was in school all I had to do was find the staff proxy and specify that in firefox instead of the student one. The ip address was one higher than the usual proxy.

Wow, that net admin doesn't know wtf he is doing.

Open proxies lol. Again, another admin that doesn't know wtf he is doing.

this thread reminds me of the good old days at high school, managed to take the entire network down once when trying to take out the filter system (Whoops)

used to use smoothwall which asked for a admin log in when you try and access a filtered site loved the LRC admin account Username: lrc password: 123456

Use Ultrasurf or Freegate, just runs as an exe and you will be able to use it at school. Websites will be blocked at school, but if you have unfiltered access at home use these links:

Ultrasurf

FreeGate

I used these from say 2004 to 2009 without any issues. In my experience FreeGate was better, but for non Chinese locations I think they have a time limit on usage now, so Ultrasurf might be your better bet.

Oh, this brings back too many memories :/
