Hi,

Just got a sapphire 950Mhz card and apart from the crap overclockability of the card at load it makes a very audible whining noise which i can hear above the fans and the very loud pump.

https://www.box.com/s/180bbfe77c8c9ddd5b6d here is a link for the recording turn the volume up its is very loud. It gets even louder when overclocked at all even a slight bit.

not liking this new card much i like a quiet pc and the new pump i got is making a lot of vibrations but the gpu can even be heard above that WTF!

You are joking right? Its at 950mhz, how can that be crap

The loud noise is called coil whine, it's common on highend cards, some are worse than others, it looks like you have one of the louder ones.

Nothing you can do about it really apart from trying to get it replaced, turning Vsync on should help though. I also read that if you overclock high enough the pitch of the noise increases, making it less noticeable. Think it was Firat from on here who said that is what he did with one of his GPUs, can't remember which thread though.

Probably is coil whine, which pretty normal in most high end cards. I wouldn't worry too much about it as it will not have any effect on the performance of the card. If the noise is very loud, there is a chance that you could RMA the card, but coil whine is considered standard by most graphics card manufacturers so if the noise is bearable I would suggest you keep the card.

well in that case I think you should RMA the card. I don't see why there would be problem with doing so if the sound is that loud.

So,which card and which case are we talking here?

As other have said it may be down to coil whine(which is "luck of the draw",but without more info, then well there is sod all anyone can say.

from what I know about that card, it should be fairly quiet, even under load. This again tells me that the noise probably is a bad case of coil whine. Either that or there is something wrong with the fan. Either way I would RMA the card.

yea but i know its not the fan cause there isnt one at ALL i think i can tell if its a fan or not.

going to RMA it too loud just means i got to dissemble my loop again.

makes that noise but a bit louder can hear it outside of the case in my chair lol.

problem is i have a 7970 WB (managed to take the card off it whilst it was still in the loop lol, i aint draining it again XD) so i got to get another one as this card uses 7970 pcb or get a 7970.

think ill try the msi one http://www.ebuyer.co...-r7970-2pmd3gd5

if that whines ill go through all the manufactures my 5870 whined but i could only hear it if i took the side of the case off i can live with that, but when you can hear it across the room its VERY annoying.

Cant get a Asus cause my waterblock wouldnt fit it.

ordered a msi 7970 now was only £30 more so not really a big deal hope this one has way less coil whine or that will be going back lol.

one question the sapphire card never had a warranty void for taking stock cooler off if the msi one has a stick if i take the cooler off but the card is faulty of everything other than over heating will i be able to return it?

well that was a waste of time the msi one has it just as bad are all 7970's like this its shoddy quality control to have it that loud.

plus this one cant even clock to 1000Mhz on the core it gets loads of artefacts in furmark.

been running my 4870x2 for almost 5 years now.. no whine in it either.. even maxed out at 778mhz GPU (lol) and 980 Memory

Just thought I would share
