I'm gona build a rig for a friend but haven't put one together since Ivy bridge got released. She wants a smallish PC so going to use one of the Asus gene boards but the reviews don't seem to rate the Z77 too much over the Z68 version.

As for the processor, I was going to recommend either a i3-2120 or a 2550K, depending on what she wanted to spend but there are some Ivy's around the same price as the 2550K, like the 3550 and I have no idea how they stack up against it.

Few months ago I would have said 2500K without a thought but now not so sure.

Anyways, since I'm clueless at the mo I thought I would ask you guys to see if you've seen any good benchmarks comparing these and also what your thoughts where.

She'll be using it for accounting stuff like sage but also wants it to be good at gaming as she likes her mmorpg's.

Thanks in advance guys.

Go for a 2500K if you find an unbelievable deal on one, but tbh there's almost no deals on SB chips anymore so i'd go for a 3570K

Does she need it for intense gaming? If not then the i3 2120 would be a great choice

EDIT : For stuff like mmorpg's I would personally think that an i3 2120 would be more than enough

Cheers, I'll look into that.

Completely agree, just want to give her options as every now and again she may want to throw something more at it. Also I sometimes think its worth getting a better processor now so the rig will last her longer. She can just upgrade the graphics card at some point.

Unless you find an amazing deal on sandy, get a 3570k
