Oky just got mys elf one of these apart from the pitiful memory inside (having to use a Memory card to bost it) its seems a good phone.

Now im had this thing 3 days and this is my first ever decent phone (trust me i use them to make calls and that's all normally).

So after spending 2 days with it and eventually getting Goggle market place to work i do have a couple of questions.

1) Route unlocking - any real point

2) If i unlocked it is there any better OS (hacks that are fully working and faster)

3) what are the best Apps for it

4) We are the decent games

5) Managed to get the GPS working but dont really like it is there any better GPS options for it. OS maps is cool for hill climbing but id rather have maps on the phone not downloading.

6) Im on 3 contract but my contact only gives me 1 Gb of Data is that any good. I think ill go though 1 GB of data very quickly. Yes i do have it to Wifi when at home but 1gb seems measly to me.

I have a samsung galaxy i5700 portal and have made my own ROM mod (based on eclair 2.1)

I have mine rooted also, I think 3 have the OTA eclair update tho so u may or may not want to do this.

I am on t-mobile which is 3GB/mo and only use a few hundred megs at the most.

For GPS I use copilot as you don't need to use any network bandwidth (unlike google maps)

Main apps I use:

launcherpro

musicmod (from xda-devs)

seesmic (for twitter as the default app sux)

3D Gallery

Barcode Scanner

Google Goggles

Bump

Pure Calendar Widget

Quickboot

There are also apps for tethering which comes in handy when your broadband goes down

Using custom ROMS / Mods can make the phone benchmark quicker etc, but it depends on how much you use the phone etc.

There is a guy who has custom compiled the DVM libraries with more optimisations and also highly optimised kernels but I have found certain ones to be unstable and drop out services like gmail which stops receiving push email

If you do root it I have also made a MOD which clears up space by mounting the DVM cache into the huge cache partition which free's up 40-60MB of data for applications etc

Yeh just looked at co pilot its £19.00 lol might have to save up pennys for it.

Ive tried routing with no success last night the uploader just stood there for a bit with nothing happening im on android 2.1.1

Are you using ODIN with the Samsung drivers?

Think ODIN only works on 32bit OS as I had to boot into my other install of windows to flash.

yeh 64bit mate it works just doesn't push. i dont have a 32 bit os installed anyware to be honest . ill do it next time

Just got the vlc remote down and it works relay well. all so got co pilot down omg how complex. lol

Hmm oky got a 32bit os install but just been reading though it says i have to get the sim lock removed first. as in the phone unlocking is this true. Do i really need to do that as this will cost money or can i get the route admin with out a sim lock performing.

I didn't unlock mine, but not tried any other sims in it

Would guess it is locked to t-mobile tho and it works fine

finaly got it unlocked , and routed and freed lol. Ill start reinstalling apps now.
