I never even knew games had phone support. I had someone glitch me practically infinite money in GTA Online and so opened a ticket online explaining I didn't intentionally exploit anything. They took care of it and removed all the extra moneyz without removing any of my stuff. Was pretty impressed with their support and diligence tbh.

Your so honest^_^

How can it be that bad? Come on R*...

Atleast this isn't a security breach. Its just people using the same password/email combos from something else that was compromised and trying the various combos. Beats the usual thing of the passwords being stored plaintext on a server that is easy to get into.

I'm going to play devils advocate here, bare with me.

Imagine you're Rockstar, imagine the press weight behind this, and imagine the shear volume of phone calls their support department is receiving.

Now imagine that 50% of that is people who keep calling back, about the same issue, over, and over and over again.

That means that 50% of your call traffic is not new issues, it's existing people just calling up to hassle you about something you've already told them is outside of your current support control, it's being dealt with, please wait.

I imagine the call handlers have been 100% instructed to say those words because then there is no admission to a problem, and there's no extra details that go out to give liability to anyone, or show admission of problems/fraud etc. No garantee of a fix time blah blah blah. It's all there to stop more bad press (even if this is giving it bad press anyway).

From the sound of the handlers, they sound like *very* low tier support, likely temporary staff to help with the sheer bulk of calls from a launch, literally only employed to read lines. There will be something in place that says if Ticket xxxx calls again within x hours, be polite, but don't process the call any further, we have enough shit to deal with. And they will have no say over that, they're just drones there to fill in new notes, there will be literally nothing else they can do.

The guy in this video called what? 6 times? JUST to get the calls on tape and for the video. Rockstar know this is happening, and the safest thing they can do is keep their mouths shut and make the call as short as possible which is exactly what they're doing.

Now, back on my views.

Account 'hacks' may have happened, but as usual because it's a 'big story' from one of the biggest most anticipated PC games in many years, this is going to be blown WAY out of proportion.

Can you imagine what percentage 2400 people is of their current player base? a single percentage point? if that?, you can rule that out to people just brute forcing the system using people's email addresses from other services. That's not a serious security hole, that's the kind of stuff you expect to get from a game of this size.

This is why their incorrect password lockout only takes 5 tries before you're 100% locked out of your account until you talk to support. That's a great step, but if people are using the same passwords they did on another, less secure, service. Then that's 100% going to get their account compromised!

I think people need to gain a little perspective on this personally. Believe me when I say Rockstar will be working their asses off trying to figure out what has happened, and how to prevent it. But there's only so much you can do if people use the same password in more than one place.
