I was considering to pick up a second hand 290 as I have a EK waterblock here laying around from a mate that did not want it.

Where I live then they are being sold for 250 more or less second hand. Now, what are the possible faults that could happen if the card that I would buy would be a ex mining card?

As I need to install the EK waterblock then I would assume that I would void any possible RMA?

Ex mining REFERENCE card? I don't trust that the caps/chokes/vrms would go "easily" under the thermal stress mining puts on the hardware

Dude. Don't be cheap haha, Just wait a little longer till you've got the extra saved up and go buy one new. That way you can be confident in your purchase.

I noticed yesterday a post over on the [H]Forum several people were talking about shutting down their mining machines and selling off hardware either because they want something more efficient or too much heat. Be careful on what you buy used.

I wouldn't buy one off Ebay, if you can get one off a forum from a well known and trust worthy member that is still in warranty though, i'd grab it.

If it is a cheap one on Ebay it has most likely been raped through mining 24/7.

yeah, maybe, its just that I have the ek water block laying around. Its not that I NEED the 290.... I currently have a 780 with a XSPC waterblock.

where i live (Singapore), R9 290 TriX are retailing at SGD480 (GBP 220).
Gonna save up and get one to be my main card cos my current has elpida memory and it does not OC well... :(
